The problems existing in the application of reactive power optimization based on genetic algorithm to practical power system are analyzed. On the basis of traditional genetic algorithm the fitness function and the holding of population diversity are improved, in addition, the priority of equipment action and historical empirical data of load are led into genetic algorithm and according to the practical situation of Fujian power system the practical improvement of reactive power optimization based on genetic algorithm is finished. The practical application results show that with the improved genetic algorithm the action of control equipments is rational, the times of equipment action are less, the voltage qualification rate can be effectively improved and the network loss is reduced.
