The present status of research and development of power transmission and transformation equipment’s on-line monitoring and diagnosis technology in national and international were analyzed synthetically. Some general problems were summarized. By analyzing the principles and methods concerning to on-line evaluation and failure diagnosis of power transmission and transformation equipment, an integrated and distributed on-line monitoring system was put forwarded. The principles and schemes of on-line evaluation and residual lifetime prediction and the ways to solve some technical problems were also presented. By analyzing the interfusion of on-line monitoring and condition-based maintenance, the on-line monitoring and failure diagnosis were emphasized as the base to realize the transition from preventive maintenance to condition-based maintenance. The significance of studying and introducing some new characteristics concerning to the electrical equipments’ running condition were discussed. As a result, the on-line monitoring and diagnosis technology of power transmission and transformation equipment are regarded as one of the critical technology to improve the reliability of electric network, and its prospect is bright.
