Based on making the experiments of a geological mechanics model withythree dimensions for stability of an arch abutment and refering theyconcept of intensity reserve,authors present a new technique and methodyfor simulating the step-by-step decreasing process in mechnicalyparameters of rock formation and the formation with fragment duringlong running term of a project by using the similar material withychangeable temperature. Moreover, selecting a project as an example andyusing the method in combination of intensity reserve with exceesiveycharge of the project. Authors explore the process,mechanism andyconfiguration of the disintegration of the abutment. In order to give the reference in design and construction of the project, a safety degree index of comprehensive stability has been suggested andyconcrete measures and proposals for the stability disposal of thyabutment have also been presented in this paper.
