The average rate of sea level rise in China was observed as fast as 1.4～2.0mm/a in recent century. It has been estimated that the sea level rise in China will be speed up in next century. Due to the ground subsidence in deltas of big rivers the relative sea level rise along the coast of those deltas in 2050 will be as twice as the best global estimation calculatcd by IPCC(1990). Sea level risc can aggravate several kinds of coastal disasters, especially typhoon and storm surge. Rapid growth in population and asset density in recent 20 years as ewell as low standard of sea wall alogn the coast has increased year by year disaster losses generated by storm surge. It has been predicted that the losses in coastal disaster will increase tremendously in next century .Sea level rise, coastal disaster development and more and more low tidal flat inning made it imperative to recognize the significance of coastal protection in development of regional economy. It is necessary to increase investment, to strengthen and protect sea wall and coast as well as beach and tidal flat, to apply comprehensive measurements including engineering and ecological approaches, in order to upgrade the standard of sea wall along the most of coast in China in the near future.
