Objective To study the advantage and disadvantage of internal jugular vein puncture and traditional super vein puncture for venous chemotherapy of leukemia ; so as to reduce the complications and improve the quality of patients＇ lives with the proper puncture method. Methods The effects of internal jugular venous chemotherapy for 54 patients and super venous chemotherapy for 75 patients were compared. Results The rate of agent leak, venous infection, constipation, subjective indisposition and selfcare deficiency were significantly lower in internal iugular vein group（P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. There was no significant difference in the rate of local infection in two groups（P〉0.05）. Conclusion The effect of catheter placed in internal jugular vein is obviously better than that placed in super vein for the venous chemotherapy of leukemia patients. It is better to apply internal jugular vein puncture in medical practice.
