With 20 double cross hybrid clones of white poplar, whose hybridizationcombination is (P. tomentosa ×P,bolleana)× (P,alba× P, tremula )as the experimentalmaterials, the dehydration tolerance abilities, osmotic adjustment abilities as well asgrowth and physiological performances of the clone were studied; and the droughtresistance abilities of the clones were judged comprehensively' Significant differences of allthe indices studied existed among the clones. The plant height, single leaf area,photosynthesis,transpiration,leaf water-losing rate and the ability of osmotic adjustmentwere suggested to be used as standards in drought-resistance clones selection. A methodof weighted arrangement was used in comprehensive judgment of drought resistance of theclones. The ten clones that had strongest comprehensive drought-resistance abilities wereB432, B402, MX2, B412, 3, B435, B450, B430, B43 7, B406.
