Objective To select the anticancer ingredient from oratosquilla on Cell Line CNE - 2Z of the Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and study its effects on cell - cycle. Methods The means of systematic solvent extraction was used to separate the 95% ethanol extract from oratosquilla. By using MTT assay. The best effective on the cell growth inhibition of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell Line CNE - 2Z were selected in this study. The cell cycle distribution was analyzed by flow cytometry assay. Results The results of MTT assay indicated that the three extracts had different inhibition on the CNE -2Z cells and there was significant correlation between dose and effect as well as between time and effect. And those IC50 of 48h was separately 1550μg/ml, 239μg/ml and 833μg/ml. So the ethylacetate extract was the most effective on the growth inhibition of CNE - 2Z （ P 〈 0.01 ）. The proportion of G1 phase and G2/M phase decreased and S phase increased gradually following the concentration of the ethylacetate extract increasing （ P 〈 0.01 ）. Conclusion The ethylacetate extract is the most effective on the growth inhibition of CNE - 2Z and it inhibits the cell growth of CNE - 2Z probably by inducing the S phase arrest.
