The calculations of the normal depth of open trapezoidal channel with arc bottom was unable to directly be finished because of involving solution of equation of higher degree. Nowadays, the trial method and diagram method used in engineering showed such defects as complexity and lack of precision, and using computers involved programming and other inconvenience. In this regard, this paper adopted multi-parameter optimization and fitting methods, and took minimum standard residue as the object function. After several approximate fitting calculations within the parameter range of the engineering, a simple and highly precise approximate formula was got, which had certain practical meaning.
