With the help of a steady state constant wall temperature method a study was conducted of the heat transfer and resistance characteristics of two air cooled heat exchangers made respectively of three elliptical finned tubes and one circular finned tube. It has been found that under an identical stoss side flow speed the heat transfer factor of the elliptical finned tubes is approximately 3 7 times that of the circular finned tube. Moreover, under the same heat transfer factor the elliptical finned tubes feature a lower pressure drop than that of the circular finned one.
