Objective To study the relationship between different feeding methods and the occurrence of neonatal ery- thema. Methods A study was conducted among 519healthy full-term cesarean neonates in the first pregnacies in our hos- pital from June 20,2016to July 30,2016,whose birth weights are from 2500grams to 4000grams within five days of birth. The number of cases with erythema or not was recorded according to sex and feeding pattern respectively .Chi square test was used to analyze the data. Results There were 21cases of breast-feeding in neonates and 290eases of formula feeding and mixed feeding with erythema,33cases of breast-feeding and 175cases of formula feeding and mixed feeding without neonatal erythema.Formula feeding and mixed feeding were significantly correlated with neonatal erythema (P <0.001). There were 184boys and 127girls with neonatal erythema. There were 110 boys and 98 girls without erythema of neo- nates. No significant correlation was found between genders and neonatal erythema (P >0.05).Conclusion Formula feeding or mixed feeding neonatals are more susceptible to neonatal erythema than those who are breast feeding, suggesting that milk protein allergy may be an early risk factor for neonatal erythema.
