According to the characteristics of mobility,transient effect and uncontrollability,a quantitative detection system of muzzle smoke of small arms was designed,which measures the photosensitive voltages of the penetrating laser through the space of the muzzle smoke collecting box in the states with and without smoke respectively. The calculated light transmittance was used to characterize the smoke concentration of the muzzle smoke of small arms. The prototype was developed. Test results prove that the developed system features high reliability,stable operation and accurate test results,which provides an important method for testing muzzle smoke of small arms.
