The close literary exchanges between China and Japan in modem times were closely related to the wave of Chinese youngsters going to Japan for further education at the beginning of the last eentury. Since the late Qing Dynasty, the literary relations between China and Japan have witnessed steady progress, and the cultural exchanges between the two sides have also been increasing. The experience of Chinese people studying abroad created a bridge of cultural exchange between China and Japan, and foreign civilization also expands the cultural horizons of Chinese poets studying there. In their poems, they advocated the need to emulate Japan while encouraging innovation, hoping that China would be able to learn from the West with the help of Japan. Thus the experience of studying in Japan became the mediunl of exploring Western culture on their part. Be it indirectly looking into the world or directly understanding Japan, their experience of studying abroad created a cultural filtering mechanism with which to explore the new modern consciousness.
