Objective: The pathogen of watermelon fusarium wilt was isolated and purified. And the inhibition of the pathogen was investigated by adding the crude extract of bitter melon seed protein on the culture medium of the pathogen of Fusarium oxysporum. Methods: The pathogen of Fusarium oxysporum was isolated from the wilted watermelon plants by streaking plate method. Then the normal watermelon seedlings were infected with the spores of pathogen. Moreover, the inhibition of the crude extract of bitter melon seed protein on the pathogen of watermelon fusarium wilt was observed. Results: The colony of the pathogen of watermelon fusarium wilt, the form of the small/large conidia and the form of the mycelium are the same as that described by Buss, which is Fusarium oxysporum. The watermelon seedlings with one or two cotyledons could be easily infected by Fusarium oxysporum. On the medium with the pathogen, the perforated filter paper, which was soaked in the sterile water and the crude extract of bitter melon seed protein, was used for antagonistic experiment. Inhibition zone appeared in the experimental group while there was none in the control group. Conclusion: The pathogen for watermelon fusarium wilt was a kind of Fusarium oxysporum and the crude extract of bitter melon seed protein can effectively inhibit pathogenetic growth.
