In order to analyze the sustainable development of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, this paper analyzed the development of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 2017 by using ecological footprint method. The results showed that the ecological footprint per capita in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was 3.9056 hm~2 in 2017, the ecological carrying capacity per capita was 1.0932 hm~2, the ecological ecology was 2.8125 hm~2 and the ecological footprint intensity index was 3.5728. Based on the ecological footprint, the diversity index was 0.9126. Based on the ecological footprint, the social development index was 3.5643. Based on ecological carrying capacity, the diversity index was 1.0612. Based on ecological carrying capacity, the social development index was 1.1601. It shows that the production and living intensity of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region exceed the carrying capacity of the ecological system, and it is in the unsustainable development level according to the level of sustainable development in China. 展开更多

Ecological poverty alleviation is one of China’s accurate poverty alleviation strategies. The Guiding Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Three-year Action to Win the Fight against Poverty issued in August 2018 calls for innovating ecological poverty alleviation mechanisms,strengthening ecological protection and restoration in poor areas,and achieving a win-win situation of ecological improvement and poverty alleviation. Poverty alleviation by ecological compensation has realized the effective combination of ecological protection compensation and accurate poverty alleviation policy mechanism. Although China has achieved some practical results in ecological poverty alleviation at the policy level,the combination of ecological protection and accurate poverty alleviation and the corresponding policy measures have not yet been fully integrated. Moreover,the mode of ecological compensation for poverty alleviation is not perfect,and the corresponding operating mechanism of ecological compensation for poverty alleviation has not been fully established. This paper summarizes and expounds the present situation of ecological compensation research( including ecological compensation concept,ecological compensation mechanism,ecological compensation mode),the current situation of ecological poverty alleviation research( including the relationship between ecological compensation and poverty alleviation,ecological poverty alleviation model,ecological poverty alleviation mechanism),and then analyzes the main problems existing in the current poverty alleviation by ecological compensation. This paper puts forward the breakthrough points of establishing and perfecting ecological compensation to help the poor,so as to provide a reference basis for further promoting the development of ecological poverty alleviation. 展开更多

In order to improve the control of land use in China,taking Sunan Yugur Autonomous County in the Qilian Mountains area as an example,this paper explores the method of national ecological space delimitation and zoning based on ARCGIS platform. Three kinds of space division techniques are formed to unify natural resources survey data,carry out land spatial suitability evaluation,delimit three kinds of space and optimize natural ecological space division. According to existing laws in China,based on ecological protection red line,natural ecological space is divided into ecological protection red line and general ecological space. According to the regulation requirements and the functional division of various protected areas,the red line area of ecological protection is divided into core protected area,ecological restoration area,traditional utilization and recreation area with the area of 3 947. 28,3 216. 89 and 6 936. 56 km2,respectively. In view of the prominent problems in the process of delimitation and zoning of natural ecological space,some suggestions are put forward,such as unification of chassis,optimization of ecological protection red line and coordination and unification of management boundary. 展开更多

Spatiotemporal analysis and multiple scenarios prediction of sustainable ecosystem in China based on ecological footprint method 预览

Dynamic changes of sustainable ecosystem in China have been assessed with long-term series from 1949 to 2006, and the ecosystem sustainability of 30 provinces in 1986, 1996, 2002 and 2006 are analyzed with ecological footprint index (EFI) and ecological footprint efficiency (EFE). The two indices are proposed based on ecological footprint (EF) method. Then, the fluctuant cycles of per capita EF and bicapacity (BC) in China 1949-2006 are decomposed and extracted based on EMD method, and series nonlinear dynamic predictive models are presented with the cycles. Three Forecasting scenarios are analyzed based on their predictive models according to three EF scenarios presented in Living Planet Report 2006 published by WWF et al.(2006). Over last 57 years, China’s EFI has reduced sharply with fluctuation. The change of EFE is very slowly before 1980, subsequently, is sharply increased. There are 6, 5, 12, and 7 provinces which are running ecological surplus in 1986, 1996, 2002, and 2006, respectively. There are 14, 16, 11, and 16 provinces which EFI are smaller than -100% in 1986, 1996, 2002, and 2006, respectively. The provinces with the highest EFE are Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin, and the lowest are Xinjiang, Guizhou, Hainan, Ningxia, et al. in 1986, 1996, 2002, and 2006, respectively. The obvious undulation cycles of per capita EF in China are 4.8 years and 10.9 years, and the periods of per capita BC are 3.03 years, 8.35 years, 14.25 years, and 28.15 years. The business-as-usual scenario looks at the consequence that per capita ED would be 11.200hm2 and EFI would be -1307.19% in China in 2050. The slow-shift scenario shows per capita ED would be 0.728hm2 and EFI would be -84.96% in 2050. The rapid-reduce scenario shows per capita ED in China would be 0.498hm2 in 2050 and 0.261hm2 in 2100, respectively. EFI of rapid-reduce scenario would be -58.11% in 2050. China could denote sustainability at the global level if slow-shift scenario and rapid-reduce scenario are implemented. 展开更多

Vegetation and soil wind erosion dynamics of sandstorm control programs in the agro-pastoral transitional zone of northern China

To combat soil erosion and desertification,large-scale sandstorm control programs have been put in place since 2000 in the agro-pastoral transitional zone of northern China.Vegetation dynamics as well as soil wind erosion control effects are very important for assessing the ecological success of sandstorm control programs in China.However,no comprehensive evaluation of vegetation dynamics and soil wind erosion control effects in this region has been achieved.In this study,we illustrate the vegetation and soil wind erosion dynamics of sandstorm control programs in the northern Shanxi Province using remote sensing data and soil wind erosion models.There was a significant increase in vegetation cover for 63.59% of the study area from 2001 to 2014 and a significant decrease for 2.00% of the study area.The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) showed that the largest increase occurred in autumn.Soil wind erosion mass decreased from 20.90 million tons in 2001 to 7.65 million tons in 2014.Compared with 2001,the soil wind erosion moduli were reduced by 43.05%,36.16%,and 62.66% in 2005,2010,and 2014,respectively.Spatially,soil wind erosion in most of the study area was alleviated between 2001 and 2014.The relationship between NDVI and soil wind erosion mass showed that the increased vegetation coverage reduced the soil wind erosion mass.In addition,wind was the main driving force behind the soil wind erosion dynamics.The results indicate that the vegetation coverage has increased and soil wind erosion mass has been reduced following the implementation of the sandstorm control programs.However,the ecological effects of the sandstorm control programs may vary over different periods.While the programs appear to be beneficial in the short term,there may be unintended consequences in the long term.Research on the sustainability of the ecological benefits of sandstorm control programs needs to be conducted in the future. 展开更多

As a major component of urban ecological systems, the urban ecological space is an important carbon pool in the urban carbon circulation. Meanwhile, its special recreational function adds to the complexity of its carbon effects. According to the carbon process and effects of the urban ecological recreational system, the Source-Leakage-Sink-Order(SLSO) framework is proposed as the basis of the four subsystems of the system model. Consisting of 63 parameters, the system dynamics model of urban ecological recreational system is constructed by using VENSIM PLE. Then the urban ecological recreational system in Shanghai under different scenarios is simulated, and the carbon sources and sinks of the system as well as the process of carbon effects such as carbon footprints are analyzed and predicted. Research shows that due to the imbalance of the spatial pattern of ecological recreational space, the carbon sink effects of the system are quite limited. The human carbon source is the main contributor of the system’s carbon sources and the carbon footprint deficit is striking. The management ability of ecological recreational space influences the carbon sink potentials of the system. In addition,the maintenance mode of ecological green space plays a non-trivial role in the composition of carbon sources. 展开更多

The application of remote sensing in understanding tree species structural diversity and land use patterns relationship is imperative for reforestation and biodiversity conservation efforts. This study assesses land use patterns and tree species structural diversity in previously reforested hilly sandstone regions of northern Togo. The physical height, and diameter at breast height(DBH) more than 5 cm of all tree species in each given plot were measured in summer 2017. A total of 75 plots of 900 m~2 installed along the toposequence were recorded. In addition, a semi-supervised classification of Landsat 8 images in January of 2018, was also used to classify the land use patterns. 36 tree species and 19 families were recorded for the entire study area. Meanwhile, 19 tree species and 15 families were recorded for the previously afforested zones. The most abundant species included the Sterculiaceae, Zygophyllaceae, Meliaceae, and Mimosaceae. The trees stand structure represented 8.61 ± 0.57 m, 11.28 ± 1.76 cm, and 0.018 ± 0.009 m~2 per hectare for height, diameter and basal area respectively. Major land use patterns were tree and shrub savannahs, parklands and croplands which represented over 60% of the landscape. It is necessary to examine the regeneration and vegetative multiplication potentials of the most frequent and abundant tree species for any eventual future afforestation programs in these hilly sandstone regions of northern Togo. 展开更多

Owing to the energy demands and global warming issue, employing more effective power cycles has become a responsibility. This paper presents a thermo-dynamical study of an irreversible Brayton cycle with the aim of optimizing the performance of the Brayton cycle. Moreover, four different schemes in the process of multi-objective optimization were suggested, and the outcomes of each scheme are assessed separately. The power output, the concepts of entropy generation, the energy, the exergy output, and the exergy efficiencies for the irreversible Brayton cycle are considered in the analysis. In the first scheme, in order to maximize the exergy output, the ecological function and the ecological coefficient of performance, a multi-objective optimization algorithm (MOEA) is used. In the second scheme, three objective functions including the exergetic performance criteria, the ecological coefficient of performance, and the ecological function are maximized at the same time by employing MOEA. In the third scenario, in order to maximize the exergy output, the exergetic performance criteria and the ecological coefficient of performance, a MOEA is performed. In the last scheme, three objective functions containing the exergetic performance criteria, the ecologi-cal coefficient of performance, and the exergy-based ecological function are maximized at the same time by employing multi-objective optimization algorithms. All the strategies are implemented via multi-objective evolu-tionary algorithms based on the NSGAII method. In the current context of climate change and ecological awareness,designing sustainable environments is definitely understood as a shared responsibility.With the construction sector consuming half of the world's energy,the role of some key stakeholders such as architects becomes even more critical when providing responsible and relevant design for the built environment.Thus,improving the way our environments are being designed challenges some cultural systems that show evident limits,such as the training of future architects and engineers.In this research,the focus is on architecture students and aims to demonstrate how the use of a new sustainable performance simulation tool,called Easy Approach for Sustainable and Environmental Design(EASED)could contribute to educate them about innovatively sustainable design.This was assessed through the evaluation of student engagement,their use of the tool and its appropriation.Results show that individual work was not convincing,whereas success was met during group work.Limits and improvement possibilities were found in the interface of EASED as well as in the educational set up of the tool. 展开更多

Prediction of the globally ecological suitability of Panax quinquefolius by the geographic information system for global medicinal plants(GMPGIS)

American ginseng(Panax quinquefolius L.) is a well-known Asian traditional herbal medicine with a large market demand. The plant is native to eastern North America, and its main producing areas worldwide are decreasing due to continuous cropping obstacles and environmental changes. Therefore, the identification of maximum similarities of new ecological distribution of P.quinquefolius, and prediction of its response to climate change in the future are necessary for plant introduction and cultivation. In this study, the areas with potential ecological suitability for P. quinquefolius were predicted using the geographic information system for global medicinal plants(GMPGIS) based on 476 occurrence points and 19 bioclimatic variables. The results indicate that the new ecologically suitable areas for P. quinquefolius are East Asia and the mid-eastern Europe, which are mainly distributed in China, Russia, Japan, Ukraine, Belarus, North Korean, South Korea, and Romania. Under global climate change scenarios, the suitable planting areas for P. quinquefolius would be increased by 9.16%–30.97%, and expanding north and west over the current ecologically suitable areas by 2070. The potential increased areas that are ecologically suitable include northern Canada, Eastern Europe, and the Lesser Khingan Mountains of China, and reduced regions are mainly in central China, the southern U.S., and southern Europe. Jackknife tests indicate that the precipitation of the warmest quarter was the important climatic factor controlling the distribution of P. quinquefolius.Our findings can be used as a useful guide for P. quinquefolius introduction and cultivation in ecologically suitable areas. 展开更多
