The effect of the substrate holder feature dimensions on plasma density(ne), power density(Qmw) and gas temperature(T) of a discharge marginal plasma(a plasma caused by marginal discharge) and homogeneous plasma were investigated for the microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition process. Our simulations show that decreasing the dimensions of the substrate holder in a radical direction and increasing its dimension in the direction of the axis helps to produce marginally inhomogeneous plasma. When the marginal discharge appears, the maximum plasma density and power density appear at the edge of the substrate. The gas temperature increases until a marginally inhomogeneous plasma develops. The marginally inhomogeneous plasma can be avoided using a movable substrate holder that can tune the plasma density, power density and gas temperature. It can also ensure that the power density and electron density are as high as possible with uniform distribution of plasma. Moreover, both inhomogeneous and homogeneous diamond films were prepared using a new substrate holder with a diameter of 30 mm. The observation of inhomogeneous diamond films indicates that the marginal discharge can limit the deposition rate in the central part of the diamond film. The successfully produced homogeneous diamond films show that by using a substrate holder it is possible to deposit diamond film at 7.2 μm h~(–1)at 2.5 kW microwave power. 展开更多

Directional power absorption in helicon plasma sources excited by a half-helix antenna

They were carried ... This paper deals with the investigation of the power absorption in helicon plasma excited through a half-helix antenna driven at 13.56 MHz. The simulations were carried out by means of a code,HELIC. They were carried out by taking into account different inhomogeneous radial density profiles and for a wide range of plasma densities, from 10~(11) cm~(-3) to 10~(13) cm~(-3). The magnetic field was 200, 400, 600 and 1000 G. A three-parameter function was used for generating various density profiles with different volume gradients, edge gradients and density widths. The density profile had a large effect on the efficient Trivelpiece–Gould(TG) and helicon mode excitation and antenna coupling to the plasma. The fraction of power deposition via the TG mode was extremely dependent on the plasma density near the plasma boundary. Interestingly, the obtained efficient parallel helicon wavelength was close to the anticipated value for Gaussian radial density profile.Power deposition was considerably asymmetric when the n/B_0 ratio was more than a specific value for a determined density width. The longitudinal power absorption was symmetric at approximately n_0 =10~(11) cm~(-3), irrespective of the magnetic field supposed. The asymmetry became more pronounced when the plasma density was 10~(12) cm~(-3). The ratio of density width to the magnetic field was an important parameter in the power coupling. At high magnetic fields, the maximum of the power absorption was reached at higher plasma density widths. There was at least one combination of the plasma density, magnetic field and density width for which the RF power deposition at both side of the tube reached its maximum value. 展开更多

The degradation of?Escherichia coli?bacteria?by treatment with?cold,?weakly ionised, highly dissociated oxygen plasma,?with?an?electron temperature of 3 e V, a?plasma density of 8?×?10~(15)m~(-3) and a?neutral oxygen atom density of 3.5?×?1021m~(-3) was studied. To determine the ‘real' plasma effects,?two methods were used for evaluation and determination, as well as a comparison of the number of?bacteria that had?survived: the standard plate count technique(PCT) and?advanced fluorescence-activated cell sorting(FACS). Bacteria were deposited onto glass substrates and kept below 50 °C during the experiments with oxygen plasma. The results showed that the?bacteria had?fully degraded after about 2 min of plasma treatment, depending slightly on the amount of bacteria that had been?deposited on the substrates. The very?precise determination of the O flux on?the substrates and the two-method comparison allowed for the determination of the critical dose of oxygen atoms required for the destruction of a bacterial cell wall—about 6?×?10~(24)m~(-2)—as well as deactivation of the substrates—about 8?×?1025m~(-2).These results were taken in order to discuss other results obtained by comparable studies and scientific method?evaluations in the determination of plasma effects on bacteria. 展开更多

In this study,we report a laser interferometry experiment for the online-diagnosing of a laserproduced plasma.The laser pulses generating the plasma are ultra-fast(30 femtoseconds),ultraintense(tens of Terawatt) and are focused on a helium gas jet to generate relativistic electron beams via the laser wakefield acceleration(LWFA) mechanism.A probe laser beam(λ?=?800 nm) which is split-off the main beam is used to cross the plasma at the time of arrival of the main pulse,allowing online plasma density diagnostics.The interferometer setup is based on the No Marski method in which we used a Fresnel bi-prism where the probe beam interferes with itself after crossing the plasma medium.A high-dynamic range CCD camera is used to record the interference patterns.Based upon the Abel inversion technique,we obtained a 3D density distribution of the plasma density. 展开更多

It is very important to improve the penetration depth and fueling efficiency of supersonic molecular beam injection(SMBI) especially for the next generation fusion devices such as ITER. Two components, a fast component(FC) and a slow component(SC), have been observed in the HL-2A SMBI experiments for several years, and the FC can penetrate much more deeply than the common SMBIs which draws a great deal of attention for a better fueling method. It is the first time to the FC and SC of SMBI have been simulated and interpreted in theory and simulation in this paper with the trans-neut module of the BOUT++ code. The simulation results of the FC and SC are clear and distinguishable in the same way as the observation in experiment. For the major mechanism of the FC and SC, it is found that although the difference in the injection velocity has some effect on the penetration depth difference between the FC and SC, it is mainly caused by the self-blocking effect of the first ionized SMB. We also discuss the influence of the initial plasma density on the FC and SC,and the variation of the SC penetration depth with its injection velocity. 展开更多

同轴枪放电等离子体具有密度高、输运速度快等特点,在核物理、航天工程等领域具有广阔的应用前景,已成为国际前沿研究热点.同轴枪中的等离子体密度是反映其应用特性的重要参数之一,因此等离子体密度在输运过程中的变化对理论研究和... 同轴枪放电等离子体具有密度高、输运速度快等特点,在核物理、航天工程等领域具有广阔的应用前景,已成为国际前沿研究热点.同轴枪中的等离子体密度是反映其应用特性的重要参数之一,因此等离子体密度在输运过程中的变化对理论研究和实际应用都具有重要意义.利用发射光谱法测量了HB谱线的Stark展宽,从而计算出同轴枪放电等离子体密度在输运过程中的变化.结果显示,当电源注入能量为1.08kJ、同轴枪内空气气压为4.0Pa时,等离子体密度在输运过程中不断增加;相同能量注入条件下,当同轴枪内空气气压增加至10Pa时,等离子体密度在输运过程中出现了先增加后减小的趋势;当电源的注入能量达到7.68kJ时,等离子体密度在10Pa气压条件下输运时也出现了一直增加的现象.此外,当同轴枪内的工作气体变为氩气时,在注入能量为1.08kJ、枪内气压4.0Pa条件下,等离子体密度在输运过程中一直减小. 展开更多

The nanoparticle coagulation is investigated by using a couple of fluid models and aerosol dynamics model in argon with a 5% molecular acetylene admixture rf microdischarges,with the total input gas flow rate of 400 sccm.It co-exists with a homogeneous,secondary electron-dominated low temperature γ-mode glow discharges.The heat transfer equation and flow equation for neutral gas are taken into account.We mainly focused on investigations of the nanoparticle properties in atmospheric pressure microdischarges,and discussed the influences of pressure,electrode spacing,and applied voltage on the plasma density and nanoparticle density profiles.The results show that the characteristics of microdischarges are quite different from those of low pressure radio-frequency discharges.First,the nanoparticle density in the bulk plasma in microdischarges is much larger than that of low pressure discharges.Second,the nanoparticle density of 10 nm experiences an exponential increase as soon as the applied voltage increases,especially in the presheath.Finally,as the electrode spacing increases,the nanoparticle density decreased instead of increasing. 展开更多

Diagnosing the Fine Structure of Electron Energy Within the ECRIT Ion Source

The ion source of the electron cyclotron resonance ion thruster(ECRIT) extracts ions from its ECR plasma to generate thrust, and has the property of low gas consumption(2 sccm,standard-state cubic centimeter per minute) and high durability. Due to the indispensable effects of the primary electron in gas discharge, it is important to experimentally clarify the electron energy structure within the ion source of the ECRIT through analyzing the electron energy distribution function(EEDF) of the plasma inside the thruster. In this article the Langmuir probe diagnosing method was used to diagnose the EEDF, from which the effective electron temperature, plasma density and the electron energy probability function(EEPF) were deduced. The experimental results show that the magnetic field influences the curves of EEDF and EEPF and make the effective plasma parameter nonuniform. The diagnosed electron temperature and density from sample points increased from 4 eV/2×1016m-3 to 10 eV/4×1016m(-3) with increasing distances from both the axis and the screen grid of the ion source. Electron temperature and density peaking near the wall coincided with the discharge process. However, a double Maxwellian electron distribution was unexpectedly observed at the position near the axis of the ion source and about 30 mm from the screen grid. Besides, the double Maxwellian electron distribution was more likely to emerge at high power and a low gas flow rate. These phenomena were believed to relate to the arrangements of the gas inlets and the magnetic field where the double Maxwellian electron distribution exits. The results of this research may enhance the understanding of the plasma generation process in the ion source of this type and help to improve its performance. 展开更多

A Monte Carlo code is developed to study mega-electron-volt(MeV) electron scattering and transport in plasma based on multiple scattering.A scaling law relating the angular width of a scattered beam to the incident electron energy and the areal density of plasma is found,which may provide a method of MeV electron radiography for diagnosing the areal density of high-temperature,dense plasma under fusion conditions.The study on the MeV electron beam radiography also shows that plasma density interfaces could be discriminated by electron scattering. 展开更多

The spectral emission and plasma parameters of SnO2 plasmas have been investigated.A planar ceramic SnO2 target was irradiated by a CO2 laser with a full width at half maximum of 80 ns.The temporal behavior of the specific emission lines from the SnO2 plasma was characterized.The intensities of Sn I and Sn II lines first increased,and then decreased with the delay time.The results also showed a faster decay of Sn I atoms than that of Sn II ionic species.The temporal evolutions of the SnO2 plasma parameters(electron temperature and density) were deduced.The measured temperature and density of SnO2 plasma are 4.38 eV to0.5 eV and 11.38×1017 cm-3 to 1.1×1017 cm-3,for delay times between 0.1 μs and 2.2 μs.We also investigated the effect of the laser pulse energy on SnO2 plasma. 展开更多

The resonant magnetic perturbation(RMP) coils have been successfully designed and installed on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST).Using the reflectometer systems,the density profile and the density fluctuations during magnetic perturbations(MPs) phase have been investigated.During the experiments,two different cases are studied separately:steady MPs and rotating MPs.In both cases,a strongly density pump-out has been observed.In the steady MPs cases,an enhancement of the low frequency(<60 kHz)density fluctuations in H-mode phase has been observed.The plasma density boundary out-shifts~ 5%caused by the MPs.The pedestal density gradient is reduced by 50%,while the radial location nearly stays unchanged.In the rotating MPs,the line-averaged density,the D_α emission at the divertor region and the spectrum of the density fluctuations are modulated.The results suggest that the low frequency(<60 kHz) density fluctuations may contribute to the strong density pump-out. 展开更多
