The growth and yield of peanut are negatively affected by continuous cropping.Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)and calcium ions(Ca2+)have been used to improve stress resistance in other plants,but little is known about their roles in peanut seedling growth under continuous cropping.This study investigated the possible roles of the AMF Glomus mosseae combined with exogenous Ca2+in improving the physiological responses of peanut seedlings under continuous cropping.G.mosseae combined with exogenous Ca2+can enhance plant biomass,Ca2+level,and total chlorophyll content.Under exogenous Ca2+application,the Fv/Fm in arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)plant leaves was higher than that in the control plants when they were exposed to high irradiance levels.The peroxidase,superoxide dismutase,and catalase activities in AM plant leaves also reached their maximums,and accordingly,the malondialdehyde content was the lowest compared to other treatments.Additionally,root activity,and content of total phenolics and flavonoids were significantly increased in AM plant roots treated by Ca2+compared to either G.mosseae inoculation or Ca2+treatment alone.Transcription levels of AhCaM,AhCDPK,AhRAM1,and AhRAM2 were significantly improved in AM plant roots under exogenous Ca2+treatment.This implied that exogenous Ca2+might be involved in the regulation of G.mosseae colonization of peanut plants,and in turn,AM symbiosis might activate the Ca2+signal transduction pathway.The combination of AMF and Ca2+benefitted plant growth and development under continuous cropping,suggesting that it is a promising method to cope with the stress caused by continuous cropping. 展开更多

[Methods] The wet digestion and technique of inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry(ICP-OES) were used. [Results] 20 kinds of inorganic elements in the samples of A. lappa L. roots contained rich elements essential for human beings such as K, Ca, Na, P and trace elements Cu, Fe, Zn;heavy metals Pb, As, Cu, Cd in A. lappa L. samples did not exceed the limit, and Hg was not detected in all 12 samples;heavy metals in A. lappa L. roots harvested in 12 months did not exceed the limit. [Conclusions] Compared with the roots of A. lappa L., the inorganic elements in the stems and leaves of A. lappa L. were relatively less. The samples collected from Shuimo Town in Wenchuan County of Aba Prefecture with an altitude of 920 m showed little difference from samples collected from Qiongxi Town in Hongyuan County of Aba Prefecture with an altitude of 3 505 m in 20 kinds of inorganic elements. 展开更多

Houttuynia cordata flavonoid and Sophora japonica L. polysaccharide were investigated to develop anti-UV sun-screening agent through UV wavelength scanning spectrum, antioxidant ability and cell viability after UVB irradiation. The results showed that the extracts had strong UVA and UVB absorption ability and hydroxyl free radical scavenging ability. The S. japonica L. polysaccharide showed strong anti-UVB irradiation ability according to the cell viability experiment. It suggests that the H. cordata flavonoid and S. japonica L. polysaccharide could be combined as a candidate of anti-UV sun-screening supplement and compensate for the shortcomings of chemical sunscreens against UVA ray. 展开更多

Infrared small target detection is a significant and challenging topic for daily security. This paper proposes a novel model to detect LSS-target (low altitude, slow speed, and small target) under the complicated background. Firstly, the fundamental constituents of an infrared image including the complexity and entropy are calculated, which are invoked as adaptive control parameters of smoothness. Secondly, the adaptive L0 gradient minimization smoothing based on texture complexity and information entropy (TCAIE-LGM) is proposed in order to remove noises and suppress low-amplitude details in infrared image abstraction. Finally, difference of Gaussian (DoG) map is incorporated into the pixel-based adaptive segmentation (PBAS) background modeling algorithm, which can differ LSS-target from the sophisticated background. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed novel model has a high detection rate and produces fewer false alarms, which outperforms most state-of-the-art methods. 展开更多

The medications including progesterone, uterine muscle relaxant or human chorionic gonado... Threatened abortion is a common problem in early pregnancy. This early vaginal bleeding happens in about 25% of pregnant women. The medications including progesterone, uterine muscle relaxant or human chorionic gonadotropin have essential effects in developing pregnancy, but the clinical data are insufficient to prescribe them. In recent decades, medicinal herbs can help us to present new treatments. Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) can protect the fetus from the perspective of Persian medicine. So, we hypothesize about the salutary effects of grape in miscarriage prevention. We found five standard expected mechanisms of grape to prevent threatened abortion: immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-contraction, hormonal and anti-stress activities. Grape reduces nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, expression of nuclear factor κB and other pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL (Interleukin)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α. It also elevates anti-inflammatory mediators and expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ. Grape polyphenols have a crucial role in fetus protection with high antioxidant power and other functions such as prevention of stress-triggered abortion with proanthocyanidins, or hormonal effects and inhibition of uterine contractions with resveratrol. So according to these studies, grape probably has effects on the immune and endocrine factors involved in threatened miscarriage. 展开更多

This study aimed to det... As the most northerly mangrove species in China, Kandelia obovata may undergo extreme cold event stress. Enhancing the cold tolerance of this species is crucial to its successful afforestation. This study aimed to determine the resistance of K. obovata seedlings to low temperature stress by cold acclimation and to explain the mechanisms for alleviating cold injury. To understand these mechanisms, seedlings that were acclimatized and not acclimatized were exposed to 5℃/- 2℃(day/night)for 48 h.Results showed that low temperature stress reduced leaf photosynthesis of non-acclimatized seedlings by inducing oxidative stress and structural damage to chloroplasts. These phenomena were shown by increasing levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), O2-and H2O2, as well as decreasing enzyme activities in the ascorbate–glutathione (AsA-GSH) cycle. However, cold-acclimatized seedlings had improved photosynthetic rates and efficiency of photosystem II (PSII) under low temperature stress. Compared with non-acclimatized seedlings, leaves of coldacclimatized seedlings under low temperature stress for 48 h exhibited higher anti-oxidative enzyme activities, lower levels of O2^- and H2O2, less damage to chloroplast structure, and removed 33.7% of MDA at low temperature stress for 48 h. The data indicate that cold acclimation enhances photosynthetic capacity by effectively regulating activation in the PSII electron transport and the AsA–GSH cycle to scavenge excess ROS in chloroplasts, while the latter is more important. 展开更多

Methods: Using highperformance liquid chromatography, eugenol component was quantitated. The antioxidant activity of S. aromaticum L. was analyzed by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and superoxide dismutase like activities. To determine cell viability, elastase and matrix metalloproteinase-1(MMP-1) activity, human dermal fibroblasts(HS68) were treated with S. aromaticum L. The inhibitory effect of S. aromaticum L. on tumor necrosis factor alpha induced MMPs expression in HS68 was analyzed by realtime-PCR. Results: The eugenol content was confirmed in S. aromaticum L. S. aromaticum L. was observed to have high 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and superoxide dismutase like activity. S. aromaticum L. had no cytotoxicity against the HS68 and dose-dependently increased elastase inhibition. Moreover, S. aromaticum L. significantly decreased MMP-1 content and inhibited gene levels of MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3 and MMP-9. Conclusions: The findings suggest that S. aromaticum L. has great potential as a cosmeceutical ingredient with antioxidant and antiwrinkling effects. 展开更多

目的探讨替吉奥联合奥沙利钳(SOX)方案治疗晚期胰腺癌的临床效果。方法选择2015年4月至2017年6月在青岛阜外医院治疗的晚期胰腺癌患者106例,按随机数字表法分为观察组53例,对照组53例。观察组采用SOX方案化疗,对照组采用替吉奥联合顺钳... 目的探讨替吉奥联合奥沙利钳(SOX)方案治疗晚期胰腺癌的临床效果。方法选择2015年4月至2017年6月在青岛阜外医院治疗的晚期胰腺癌患者106例,按随机数字表法分为观察组53例,对照组53例。观察组采用SOX方案化疗,对照组采用替吉奥联合顺钳方案治疗。采用流式细胞术测定两组治疗前及治疗2个周期后CD3^+、CD4^+、CD8^+细胞比例及CD4^+/ CD8^+比值采用 X^2检验和t检验比较两组患者临床治疗效果、免疫水平、不良反应,生存分析采用Kaplan-Meier法结果治疗2个周期后观察组完全缓解(CR)4例.部分缓解(PR )23例,疾病稳定(SD)17例,疾病进展(PD)9例;对照组 CR0 例,PR 18 例,SD 20 例,PD 15 例。观察组(CR^+PR )率高于对照组[50.94%(27/53 )比 33.96%(18/53 )],差异有统计学意义(χ^2=5.936,P< 0.05)。两组治疗前后CD4^+细胞比例、CD4^+/CD8^+比值比较差异有统计学意义[观察组:(27.31±2.48 )%比(37.05 ±2.53 )%, 0 = 6.491 ,P< 0.01;0.91 ±0.23比 1.53 ±0.50, χ^2 = 5.913,P<0.01;对照组:(27.43 ± 2.47 )%比(30.32 ±2.41 )%, χ^2= 11.214,P< 0.01;0.90 ± 0.22比1.22 ±0.34, χ^2= 7.992,P< 0.01 ]:治疗2个周期后观察组CD4^+细胞比例和CD4^+/CD8^+比值高于对照组,差异有统计学意义( χ^2= 5.309,P<0.01;χ^2 = 7.112,P<0.01 )治疗2个周期后两组不良反应发生率差异无统计学意义[22.64%( 12/53)比18.87%( 10/53 ), χ^2= 1.924,P>0.05 ]。观察组无进展生存时间优于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论SOX方案治疗晚期胰腺癌效果较好,有助于改善患者免疫水平,延长患者生存时间。 展开更多

Therefore, investigating the molecular mechanism of drought tolerance will provide important in... Sweetpotato, Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam., is a globally important food crop and usually grown on arid- and semi-arid lands. Therefore, investigating the molecular mechanism of drought tolerance will provide important information for the improvement of drought tolerance in this crop. In this study, transcriptome analysis of the drought-tolerant sweetpotato line Xushu 55-2 was conducted on Illumina HiSeq 2500 platform. A total of 86.69 Gb clean data were generated and assembled into 2 671 693 contigs, 222 073 transcripts, and 73 636 unigenes. In total, 11 359 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified after PEG6000 treatment, in which 7 666 were up-regulated and 3 693 were down-regulated. Of the 11 359 DEGs, 10 192 DEGs were annotated in at least one database, and the remaining 1 167 DEGs were unknown. Abscisic acid (ABA), ethylene (ETH), and jasmonic acid (JA) signalling pathways play a major role in drought tolerance of sweetpotato. Drought-inducible transcription factors were identified, some of which have been reported to be associated with drought tolerance and others are unknown in plants. In addition, 7 643 SSRs were detected. This study not only reveals insights into the molecular mechanism of drought tolerance in sweetpotato but also provides the candidate genes involved in drought tolerance of this crop. 展开更多

[Objectives]This study was conducted to determine kaempferol content in ginkgo(Ginkgo biloba L.)leaves subjected to microbial fermentation.[Methods]Bacillus licheniformis was selected for solid-state fermentation of ginkgo leaves,and the content of kaempferol in ginkgo leaves was determined by RP-HPLC method.At first,methanol was used to extract flavonoid glycosides,which were then hydrolyzed by hydrochloric acid solution.HPLC was performed with Platisil ODS column C 18(150 mm×4.6 mm,5μm)using mobile phase V methanol∶V water(0.4%phosphoric acid solution)=55∶45 at a flow rate of 1 ml/min,and the eluate was detected with a shimadzu HPLC ultraviolet detector at 360 nm.[Results]With kaempferol as the reference substance,the correlation coefficient was 0.999 2 in the range of 0.001 06-0.016 96 g/L.The content in the fermented product was less than that in the non-fermented product by 28%.[Conclusions]The method is simple,accurate,and is suitable for determination of kaempferol.This study will provide an experimental basis for the development and utilization of ginkgo. 展开更多

[Objectives]This study was conducted to study the extraction process and the content determination of flavonoids in ginkgo(Ginkgo biloba L.)leaves.[Methods]Ethanol extraction and methanol extraction of total flavonoids in ginkgo leaves were studied,and the optimal extraction conditions for flavonoids were determined by orthogonal test;and with quercetin as reference substance,total flavonoid content in ginkgo leaves was determined by UV spectrophotometry.[Results]The optimal extraction process was 4 h of Soxhlet extraction with methanol;and the total flavonoid contents had a good linear relation in the range of 0.006 5-0.039 mg/ml(R 2=0.999 9),the average content was stabilized at 1.135%,and the average recovery of the method was 102.0%.[Conclusions]This study selected the optimal extraction process for total flavonoids in ginkgo leaves.The test method is simple with high accuracy and precision,and is suitable for the extraction and determination of total flavonoids in ginkgo leaves. 展开更多

This paper addresses the narrative construction of the moment of death as depicted in Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina and in Barnes’s The Sense of an Ending. Following Orr’s definition of positive influence, described as a “site for cultural renewal”, it pursues the analysis of complexity and confluence of literary traditions in these texts. Though both Anna Karenina and The Sense of an Ending seem to insist on portraying a chronicle of struggle between a moment and a process of dying, it is nevertheless a physical moment of life ending which becomes an intensely condensed, and almost photographic, representation of the intimate, psychologically depicted, dying process. It is argued that the moment of death reveals, for instance, Anna’s unresolved internal conflict between psychological and physiological phenomena shaping human behaviour. Similarly, Barnes’s The Sense of an Ending builds upon a subtle dialogic tension between a process of psychological dying and a moment of physically conceived death. Specifically, this paper brings to light the repetitive occurence of the intense epiphanic moments which shape the thematic and the structural development of both Anna Karenina and The Sense of an Ending. 展开更多

Fruit of Lonicera caerulea L.is a rich source of phenolic compounds such as phenolic acids as well as anthocyanins,proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids,which display potential health-promoting effects.However,its genetics and genomic information is limited.Transcriptome and digital gene expression(DGE)profiles of fruit at four different development stages were compared.Related genes with anthocyanin biosynthesis were compared using real-time quantitative PCR(qRT-PCR).RNA-Seq generated 6.26-Gb clean reads,which was then de novo assembled into 45,656 UniGenes with a mean length 837 bp.A total of 7 928 unigenes were annotated into 32 known metabolic or signaling pathways in which a few primary,intermediate,and secondary metabolic pathways are directly related to fruit quality.The result of DGE and qRT-PCR indicates that UFGT(comp20132_c0)may play a key role in honeysuckle coloration.This provides a reference for the study of complicated metabolism in non-model perennial species. 展开更多

OsPT2,which is a selenite transporter in rice,belongs to rice phosphate transporter family OsPT.In this study,the amino acid sequence information of OsPT family members was collected using NCBI database.Bioinformatics method was employed to analyze physical and chemical properties and protein structure of OsPT2 and its homologous relationship with other members of the family.The results indicated that OsPT2 was a stable alkaline hydrophobic protein embedded in the cell membrane.The protein contained 11 transmembrane domains,and consisted of 45.08%of alpha helix,16.48%of extended strand,10.80%of beta turn and 27.65%of random coil,forming a barrel-like three-dimensional structure.Members in OsPT family had high homology and could be divided into 5 subgroups.OsPT2 had closer relationship with OsPT1 and OsPT3.This study could provide a basis for further revealing of molecular mechanism of selenite transport in rice. 展开更多
