Over the last three decades,the Middle East(ME)region has experienced rapid economic and infrastructure transformation.Most of the dwelling places have fully adopted western architectural trends ignoring both the cultural and environmental fundamentals of the region.The paper is incorporated with a Ph.D.research,it is cognizant of the fact that socio-demographics has changed over the years.Large cities in the region have experienced massive population growth which has made traditional architectural(TA)less suitable.This study is focused on identifying how recent innovation and technologies can be used in the adaptation of architectonic traditions.Seeking to identify how the inherent sustainability characteristics of TA can be integrated with modern architectural studies for cultural relevant and sustainable dwellings in the ME.An investigation in houses in Riyadh City,Saudi Arabia where the climate is mostly hot and arid will serve as the case study for this research because of its strong history in TA coupled with proliferation of western architecture.Research will utilize a qualitative data because it is inclusive of situational descriptions,events and observed behaviors.It will enable findings based from the participants view to cultural existence and change,and meanings important to them.Moreover,researcher will rely on the themes as the main backbone on what the study is trying to bring out.Thus,will ensure findings end up with what is appreciated for environmental housing application not only based on climate control but also based on other psychological and visual components. 展开更多

A Creative Approach to Reducing Ambiguity in Scenariobased Software Architecture Analysis

In software engineering, a scenario describes an anticipated usage of a software system. As scenarios are useful to understand the requirements and functionalities of a software system, the scenario-based analysis is widely used in various tasks, especially in the design stage of software architectures. Although researchers have proposed various scenario-based approaches to analyse software architecture, there are still limitations in this research field, and a key limitation is that scenarios are typically not formally defined and thus may contain ambiguities. As these ambiguities may lead to defects, it is desirable to reduce them as many as possible. In order to reduce ambiguity in scenario-based software architecture analysis, this paper introduces a creative computing approach to scenario-based software requirements analysis. Our work expands this idea in three directions. Firstly, we extend an architecture description language (ADL)-based language- Breeze/ADL to model the software architecture. Secondly, we use a creative rule - combinational rule (CR) to combine the vector clock algorithm for reducing the ambiguities in modelling scenarios. Then, another creative rule - transformational rule (TR) is employed to help to transform our Breeze/ADL model to a popular model - unified modelling language (UML) model. We implement our approach as a plugin of Breeze, and illustrate a running example of modelling a poetry to music system in our case study. Our results show the proposed creative approach is able to reduce ambiguities of the software architecture in practice. 展开更多

Art and technology interactions in Islamic and Check fa Christian context: Historical approach to architectural globalization

Accordingly, this research was aimed at illuminating art and technology interactions in Islamic architecture during early globalization when it flourished along with Christian architecture. To this end, logical reasoning and qualitative data an alysis were performed in parallel on 12 chai ns of mostly worshipone nted artworks, such as mosques and churches. The results indicated that art and tech no logy interactions in Islamic and Christian architecture were underlain by the same nature and seque ntial pattern of begi nning from primitive tech no logy and endi ng with inn ovative technology (art). The cultural and technological value of these architectural styles eventually crossed geographical boundaries. Therefore, the beneficial interactions between art and technology enabled Islamic and Christian architecture to participate in globalization through the con veya nee of their value to other regi ons eve n as d if fere nces existed in the measures implemented for such transmission. 展开更多

Device to device (D2D) multi-hop communication in multicast networks solves the contradiction between high speed requirements and limited bandwidth in regional data sharing communication services. However, most networking models demand a large control overhead in eNodeB. Moreover, the topology should be calculated again due to the mobility of terminals, which causes the long delay. In this work, we model multicast network construction in D2D communication through a fuzzy mathematics and game theory based algorithm. In resource allocation, we assume that user equipment (UE) can detect the available frequency and the fuzzy mathematics is introduced to describe an uncertain relationship between the resource and UE distributedly, which diminishes the time delay. For forming structure, a distributed myopic best response dynamics formation algorithm derived from a novel concept from the coalitional game theory is proposed, in which every UE can self-organize into stable structure without the control from eNodeB to improve its utilities in terms of rate and bit error rate (BER) while accounting for a link maintenance cost, and adapt this topology to environmental changes such as mobility while converging to a Nash equilibrium fast. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture converges to a tree network quickly and presents significant gains in terms of average rate utility reaching up to 50% compared to the star topology where all of the UE is directly connected to eNodeB. 展开更多

Highly homogeneous, well dispersed SiO2@Au@TiO2(SAT) microspheres decorated with Au nanoparticles(AuNPs) were prepared and incorporated into the photoanode with an optimized concentration gradientascent. The effects of SAT microspheres and the gradient-ascent architecture on the light absorption and the photoelectric conversion efficiency(PCE) of the dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs) were investigated.Studies indicate that the introduction of SAT microspheres and the gradient-ascent architecture in the photoanode significantly enhance the light scattering and harvesting capability of the photoanode. The DSSC with the optimized SAT gradient-ascent photoanode has the maximum short circuit current density(Jsc) of 17.7 mA cm-2 and PCE of 7.75%, remarkably higher than those of the conventional DSSC by 23.7%and 28.0%, respectively. This significantly enhancement of the performance of the DSSC can be attributed to the excellent light reflection/scattering of SAT, the localized surface plasma resonance(LSPR) effect of AuNPs within the microspheres, and the gradient-ascent architecture of SAT microspheres inside the photoanode. This study demonstrates that the tri-synergies of the scattering of SAT microspheres, the LSPR of AuNPs and the gradient-ascent architecture can effectively improve the PCE of DSSC. 展开更多

This research aims to enhance the interaction between a structure and its architectural form.Having a qualitative approach,the present work discovers some successfully used geometrical features of the Iranian ancient architecture in terms of the architectural-structural interaction.We define four qualitative criteria for this assessment,i.e.,construction-ability,cost effectiveness,participation of the structure in fulfillment of the visual,and functional-semantic needs of the architectural form.For this purpose,two case studies including the Jame Mosque of Isfahan and the Soltaniyeh building are investigated.The outcomes of this research help designers to not only design efficient structures by adapting non-load bearing elements with the general form of the structure,but also meet concepts such as the unity or perfectionism in the structure. 展开更多
