Precipitation-hardened aluminum alloys need to be heat treated to achieve the mechanical properties required for their application.The production of these materials can be optimized to make them more attractive and competitive comparing to other materials such as composites that have a growing and large market share in aeronautics field.One way to do this is by controlling the artificial aging of precipitation-hardenable aluminum alloys,such as the 2000 series Al-Cu alloys.These alloys can be monitored in real time by analyzing their conductivity behavior inside the furnace.The objective of this work is to evaluate the electrical conductivity behavior in real time of the 2024 alloy during the artificial aging at 190°C.For this,analyses were made in order to assess the behavior of the microhardness curve by aging time and its microstructural characterization with thermal treatments in the times of 1 h to 9 h interrupted every 1 h.The results of the electrical conductivity versus hardness curve showed a significant correlation and indicate that this measure has great potential to be used as a tool to control the thermal treatment of aging. 展开更多

A Qualitative Study of the Influence of Grooved Mold Surface Topography on the Formation of Surface Marks on As-Cast Ingots of Aluminum Alloy 3003 认领

The effects of the wavelength and orientation of machined grooves on a mold surface, casting speed, and melt superheat on the formation of surface marks on as-cast ingots were studied with an immersion casting tester and copper mold chill blocks. The mold surface topographies included a polished smooth surface, and those with machined unidirectional parallel contoured grooves oriented either parallel (vertical) or perpendicular (horizontal) to the casting direction. The unidirectional grooves were 0.232 mm deep with wavelength or spacing between 1 and 15 mm. The casting speed and melt superheat were between 1 and 200 mm/s, and 10 and 50 K, respectively. Two primary types of surface marks were observed on ingots cast with the copper mold with smooth surface topography, namely the finer and closely spaced ripples (Type I), and the widely spaced but coarser laps (Type II). The latter were more prevalent at the higher casting speeds and melt superheats. Qualitatively, formation of both types of surface marks on the as-cast ingots of the aluminum alloy 3003 appeared to be alleviated by increase in casting speed and melt superheat, and by the use of molds with grooved surface topography. In fact, casting with a mold surface with 1 mm spaced grooves that are perpendicular to the casting direction eliminated the formation of surface marks at casting speeds greater than 1 mm/s. It also improved the uniformity of the ingot subsurface microstructure and eliminated the associated subsurface segregation. 展开更多

Effect of Heat Treatment of Al Substrate on GaN Film Electrodeposited in Aqueous Solution 认领

Most reports on the fabrication of high-quality Gallium nitride (GaN) are typically based on physical techniques that require very expensive equipment. Therefore, the electrodeposition was adopted and examined to develop a simple and economical method for GaN synthesis. GaN films are synthesized on aluminum substrates that are heat-treated at various temperatures using a low-cost and low-temperature electrochemical deposition technique. The electrochemical behavior of source ions in aqueous solutions is examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV).?In the solution at pH 1.5 containing 0.1M Ga(NO3)3, 2.5 M NH4NO3 and 0.6 M H3BO3, reduction of gallium and nitrate ions are observed in CV. The presence of hexagonal GaN and gallium oxide (Ga2O3) phases is detected for the films deposited on Al substrates at -3.5 mA&#149;cm-2 for 3 h. The energy dispersive X-ray and mapping results reveal that Ga, O, and N coexist in these films. Raman analysis shows hexagonal GaN formation on Al substrates. The changes in the morphology and preferred orientation of GaN were found, which was caused by the reactivity of aluminum surface and the aluminum oxide layer formed by the heat treatment. 展开更多

针对含高浓度铝盐混凝剂的模拟废水,结合膜面形貌和元素分析技术,研究了进水pH、进水铝盐浓度及系统操作压力等因素对反渗透膜污染的影响机制。结果表明:进水中高浓度的铝盐迅速在反渗透膜表面形成密实的无机污染层。进水pH对膜污染的... 针对含高浓度铝盐混凝剂的模拟废水,结合膜面形貌和元素分析技术,研究了进水pH、进水铝盐浓度及系统操作压力等因素对反渗透膜污染的影响机制。结果表明:进水中高浓度的铝盐迅速在反渗透膜表面形成密实的无机污染层。进水pH对膜污染的影响效应最为显著;相比于进水呈酸性或碱性的情况,当进水pH为中性时,膜通量最低,脱盐率最高,膜面污染层中铝含量最高,污染程度最严重。酸性进水时膜面污染层中Al元素含量低于碱性进水,膜污染程度最低。在进水pH相同情况下,对于膜面污染层的形成,进水中铝浓度影响更显著,而操作压力影响不大。建议在实际工程中,调整进水pH至碱性,精准控制铝混凝剂投加,维持适当操作压力,以降低铝盐引起的膜污染。 展开更多

First-principles methods based on density functional theory(DFT)are nowadays routinely applied to calculate the elastic constants of materials at temperature of 0 K.Nevertheless,the first-principles calculations of elastic constants at finite temperature are not straightforward.In the present work,the feasibility of the ab initio molecular dynamic(AIMD)method in calculations of the temperature dependent elastic constants of relatively"soft"metals,taking face centered cubic(FCC)aluminum(Al)as example,is explored.The AIMD calculations are performed with carefully selected strain tensors and strain magnitude.In parallel with the AIMD calculations,first-principles calculations with the quasiharmonic approximation(QHA)are performed as well.We show that all three independent elastic constant components(C11,C12 and C44)of Al from both the AIMD and QHA calculations decrease with increasing temperature T,in good agreement with those from experimental measurements.Our work allows us to quantify the individual contributions of the volume expansion,lattice vibration(excluding those contributed to the volume expansion),and electronic temperature effects to the temperature induced variation of the elastic constants.For Al with stable FCC crystal structure,the volume expansion effect contributes the major part(about 75%~80%)in the temperature induced variation of the elastic constants.The contribution of the lattice vibration is minor(about 20%~25%)while the electronic temperature effect is negligible.Although the elastic constants soften with increasing temperature,FCC Al satisfies the Born elastic stability criteria with temperature up to the experimental melting point. 展开更多

Oxidation is a universal process causing metals’corrosion and degradation.While intensive researches have been conducted for decades,the detailed atomistic and mesoscale mechanisms of metal oxidation are still not well understood.Here using in situ environmental transmission electron microscopy(E-TEM)with atomic resolution,we revealed systematically the oxidation mechanisms of aluminum from ambient temperature to~600℃.It was found that an amorphous oxide layer formed readily once Al was exposed to air at room temperature.At~150℃,triangle-shaped Al2O3 lamellas grew selectively on gas/solid(oxygen/amorphous oxide layer)interface,however,the thickness of the oxide layer slowly increased mainly due to the inward diffusion of oxygen.As the temperature further increased,partial amorphous-to-crystallization transition was observed on the amorphous oxide film,resulting in the formation of highly dense nano-cracks in the oxide layer.At~600℃,fast oxidation process was observed.Lamellas grew into terraces on the oxide/gas interface,indicating that the high temperature oxidation is controlled by the outward diffusion of Al.Single or double/multi-layers of oxide nucleated at the corners of the terraces,forming denseγ’-Al2O3,which is a metastable oxide structure but may be stabilized at nanoscale. 展开更多

To identify the microstructural features of the lattice structures of Al alloys built via the selective laser melting(SLM)process,AlSil OMg alloy with a body-centered cubic(BCC)-type lattice structure was prepared.Characteristic microstructures comprising melt pools with several columnarα-Al phases with<001>orientations along the elongation direction and surrounded by eutectic Si particles were observed at all portions of the built lattice structure.In the node portions of the lattice structure,a gradient microstructure(continuous change in microstructure)was observed.The columnarα-Al phases were observed near the top surface of the node portion,whereas they became coarser and more equiaxed near the bottom surface,resulting in softening localized near the bottom surface.In the strut portions of the lattice structure,the columnarα-Al phases were elongated along the inclined direction of struts.This trend was more prevalent near the bottom surface.Theα-Al phases became coarser and more equiaxed near the bottom surface as well.The aforementioned results were the basis of a discussion of the development of the gradient microstructure in lattice-structured Al alloys during the SLM process in terms of thermal conductivities at the boundaries between the manufactured(locally melted and rapidly solidified)portions and adjacent(unmelted)alloy powder. 展开更多

The bainitic transformation of the steels with different mass fractions of N, ~0.002% and 0.021%, was observed in situ by using high-temperature metalloscope. Micrometer-and nanometer-sized aluminum nitride(AlN) particles were found in the steel with 0.021% N.Grain boundaries, the interior of the grains, and Al N particles were used as initial nucleation sites of bainitic ferrite, and bainitic ferrite subunits served as new nucleation sites to induce secondary nucleation. The lengthening rate of bainitic ferrite varied at different nucleation sites, which was controlled by the repeated nucleation and growth of bainitic subunits. The Al N particles not only provided several nucleation sites, but also increased the autocatalytic effect on the transformation, further shortening the incubation period, promoting the bainitic transformation, and refining the bainitic microstructure. 展开更多

A comparison of the nitrogen sources(N2 and NH3)influence on AlN films grown by high-temperature halide vapor phase epitaxy(HVPE)is reported.The x-ray rocking curves(XRCs)indicate that the full width at half maximum(FWHM)of(0002)plane for AlN films using N2 as nitrogen source is generally smaller than that using NH3.Optical microscope and atomic force microscope(AFM)results show that it is presently still more difficult to control the crack and surface morphology of AlN films with thicknesses of 5-10µm using N2 as the nitrogen source compared to that using NH3.Compared with one-step growth,two-step growth strategy has been proved more effective in stress control and reducing the density of threading dislocations for AlN epilayers using N2 as the nitrogen source.These investigations reveal that using N2 as nitrogen source in HVPE growth of AlN is immature at present,but exhibits great potential. 展开更多

The environmental issues associated with packaging materials have been attracting increasing attention.Life cycle assessment( LCA) is currently the main method used worldwide for evaluating green packaging materials. In this study,the LCA method was used to evaluate the environmental impact of Baosteel’s newly developed process for manufacturing film-laminated steel packaging materials,from raw material mining,production,and processing to their storage,consumption,recycling,and final disposal. The environmental performance and main influencing factors were analyzed and compared. In addition,the life cycle environmental characteristics of film-laminated steel cans,tin-plated steel cans,and aluminum cans were compared. Of the main environmental indicators of the life cycle of the film-laminated steel can,the environmental load of the substrate accounts for the largest proportion,follow ed by electricity. The environmental impact of the production of film materials cannot be ignored. The overall environmental performance of film-laminated steel cans is better than that of aluminum cans. 展开更多

Aluminum doping for optimization of ultrathin and high-k dielectric layer based on SrTiO3 认领

An ultrathin SrTiO3 dielectric layer is optimized through Al doping to solve the problems existing in development of ultra-high-k oxide MOS capacitors.Through post-deposition annealing,Al doping induces changes in the electronic structure of SrTiO3,thereby effectively reducing leakage current to <10^-8 A/cm^2 at 0.5 MV/cm but maintains good capacitance values(ε> 80) of ultrathin SrTMO3 MOS capacitors.Strontium titanate(SrTiO3) is a high-k material but its bandgap is smaller than that of other oxide dielectrics(e.g.,SiO2,Al2 O3).Consequently,an ultrathin SrTiO3 film may have a high tunneling leakage current,which is not suitable for capacitor-based applications.To improve the performance of metal-oxide-semiconductor(MOS) capacitors using SrTiO3,an approach based on homogenous and uniform aluminum doping to SrTiO3 through co-sputtering is introduced.The bandgap of a pristine SrTiO3 film showed an increase of 0.5 eV after Al doping.Furthermore,Al doping decreased the leakage current of SrTiO3/Si-based MOS capacitors by more than five orders of magnitude(at the level of nanoampere per square centimeter).Importantly,a dielectric constant of 81.3 and equivalent oxide thickness less than 5 A were achieved in an 8-nm-thick Al-doped SrTiO3 film owing to changes in its crystal structure and conduction band edge electronic structure.Thus,the obtained data show the effectiveness of the proposed approach for solving the problems existing in the development of ultra-high-k oxide MOS capacitors. 展开更多
