High-contrast flicker luminescence on dynamic covalent structure based nanoaggregates

In nanoscience, molecular switches have played a significant role to deliver different control abilities to practical functions,whereas high-contrast luminescence switchable manipulation at nanoscale is still limited. Since the tuning for emission behavior with high contrast ratio strongly connects to numerous visualized sensing and optoelectronic applications, we here report that autonomous p H control can be enrolled to address a high-contrast molecular emission change at the nanoaggregated level, for gaining a flicker luminescence performance in aqueous media. Employing a BODIPY contained dynamic covalent dye, we find its luminescent signal and nanoaggregate size can be spontaneously adjusted in water. On this basis, high-contrast luminescence switching of the material can be achieved upon the alternate introduction of base and acid into the aggregation state. Such a behavior can be attributed to a p H triggered photo-induced electron transfer regulation process. The dye aggregates can be well endocytosed for bioimaging and its luminescent variation can be autonomously displayed as a flicker effect. These results provide new visions for the design and development of smart materials with a dynamic luminescence behavior. 展开更多

Alkaline-earth dihalide nanocrystals(NCs) such as SrFCl, owing to their high chemical stability and low phonon energy, are excellent host materials for lanthanide(Ln3+) doping to achieve desirable optical properties for various bioapplications, Herein, we report a novel strategy for the synthesis of sub-10 nm Ln3+-doped SrFCl NCs with efficient upconverting and downshifting luminescence through a facile onestep hot-injection method. Utilizing the temperature-dependent upconverting luminescence(UCL) from the thermally coupled 2H11/2 and 4S3/2 levels of Er3+, we showed the potential of SrFCl:Yb,Er NCs as sensitive UCL nanoprobes for non-contact thermal sensing with a maximum detection sensitivity of 0.0066 K-1, which is among the highest values for thermal sensing based on Er3+-activated UCL nanoprobes. Furthermore, by employing the intense downshifting luminescence from Tb3+ and Eu3+, we demonstrated the successful use of biotinylated SrFCl:Ce,Tb and SrFCl:Eu3+ nanoprobes for biotin receptor-targeted cancer cell imaging, thus revealing the great promise of SrFCl:Ln3+ nanoprobes for versatile bioapplications. 展开更多

Multi-color and white light luminescence materials based on supramolecular assemblies are attractive because of their potential applications in advanced light-emitting material.Herein,a cucurbit[8]urilenhanced lanthanide luminescent supramolecular assembly was constructed in a facile but efficient way using terpyridine imidozalium cations,cucurbit[8]urils and rare earth ions such as Tb3+and Eu3+.Significantly,the resultant fibrous supramolecular assembly,with an average width of 15 nm,could emit remarkable lanthanide luminescence,which was ten times higher than the corresponding terpyridine/Ln3+without cucurbit[8]uril.And the solid state luminescence of supramolecular assembly could be smartly and easily turned among blue,green,red and white by adjusting the molar ratios between Tb3+and Eu3+.The enhanced white-light emission by supramolecular strategy may provide a new approach for smart and tunable solid luminescent materials. 展开更多

通过高温固相反应在弱还原气氛下制备了Sr0.955Al2-xBxSi2O8∶0.025Eu^2+(x=0~0.9)一系列荧光粉,研究了B(Ⅲ)取代基质晶格中的Al(Ⅲ)对荧光粉晶体结构和Eu^2+发光性能的影响。B(Ⅲ)以类质同相取代基质晶格中Al(Ⅲ),形成了连续固溶体。随... 通过高温固相反应在弱还原气氛下制备了Sr0.955Al2-xBxSi2O8∶0.025Eu^2+(x=0~0.9)一系列荧光粉,研究了B(Ⅲ)取代基质晶格中的Al(Ⅲ)对荧光粉晶体结构和Eu^2+发光性能的影响。B(Ⅲ)以类质同相取代基质晶格中Al(Ⅲ),形成了连续固溶体。随着B(Ⅲ)取代量的增加,荧光粉的晶胞参数(a、b、c)和晶胞体积(V)呈线性递减,而晶胞参数(β)呈线性递增。荧光粉的激发光谱为位于225~400nm的宽峰,表观峰值位于350nm,激发峰的半高宽(FWHM)随着B(Ⅲ)取代量的增加,从90nm减小到102nm。发射光谱位于370~600nm的宽峰,可拟合为409和447nm两个峰,表观峰值位于409nm。随着B(Ⅲ)取代量的增加,2个拟合峰位均出现蓝移且2个峰强度比呈线性递减。根据试样荧光光谱,通过VanUitert经验公式计算得出SrAl2Si2O8∶Eu^2+中Sr^2+的配位数为9。随着B(Ⅲ)取代Al(Ⅲ)进入基质晶格,造成发光中心Eu与配体O距离增加,使得Eu^2+所处的晶体场强度减小,发光中心Eu^2+的5d能级分裂减小,造成Eu^2+最低发射能级重心上移,2个拟合谱峰峰位均呈线性蓝移。 展开更多

Self-assembled bright luminescent hierarchical materials from a tripodal benzoate antenna and heptadentate Eu(III) and Tb(III) cyclen complexes

The europium heptadentate coordinatively unsaturated (Eu(III)) and the terbium (Tb(III)) 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (cyclen) complexes 1 and 2 were used in conjunction with ligand 3 (1,3,5-benzene-trisethynylbenzo... The europium heptadentate coordinatively unsaturated (Eu(III)) and the terbium (Tb(III)) 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (cyclen) complexes 1 and 2 were used in conjunction with ligand 3 (1,3,5-benzene-trisethynylbenzoate) to form the supramolecular self-assembly structures 4 and 5;this being investigated in both the solid and the solution state. The resulting self-assemblies gave rise to metal centered emission (both in the solid and solution) upon excitation of 3, confirming its role as a sensitizing antenna. Drop-cased examples of ligand 3, and the solid forms of 4 and 5, formed from both organic and mixture of organic-aqueous solutions, were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy, which showed significant changes in morphology;the ligand giving rise to one dimensional structures, while both 4 and 5 formed amorphous materials that were highly dense solid networks containing nanoporous features. The surface area (216 and 119 m2·g^-1 for 4 and 5 respectively) and the ability of these porous materials to capture and store gases such as N2 investigated at 77 K. The self-assembly formation was also investigated in diluted solution by monitoring the various photophysical properties of 3–5. This demonstrated that the most stable structures were that consisting of a single antennae 3 and three complexes of 1 or 2 (e.g., 4 and 5) in solution. By monitoring the excited state lifetimes of the Eu(III) and Tb(III) ions in H2O and D2O respectively, we showed that their hydration states (the q-value) changed from -2 to 0, upon formation of the assemblies, indicating that the three benzoates of 3 coordinated directly to the each of the three lanthanide centers. Finally we demonstrate that this hierarchically porous materials can be used for the sensing of organic solvents as the emission is highly depended on the solvent environment;the lanthanide emission being quenched in the presence of acetonitrile and THF, but greatly enhanced in the presence of methanol. 展开更多

The sensing capability of a Tb3+-metal-organic framework, based on its photoluminescence, was used for detection of methanol in ethanol fuel. It was synthesized using terbium and trimesic acid as a metal ion center and ligand, respectively. Powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy were employed to characterize the synthesized MOF-76 structural features. According to the results, MOF-76 was successfully obtained with minor synthetic modification and its activated form(named TbTMA) was tested as a sensor for methanol. Tb3+ luminescence intensity increases as the methanol concentration in ethanol fuel also increases and the water content does not affect this response. Our findings indicate TbTMA as an appropriate sensor for evaluating ethanol fuel adulteration by methanol addition above the allowed limit. 展开更多

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, Pccn space group, with a = 10.314(3), b = 20.966(7), c =9.432(3)?, V = 2039.5(11)?3, Z = 4, C21 H20 Cu2 N6, Mr = 483.51, Dc = 1.575 g×cm^-3,μ= 2.105 mm-1 and F(000)= 984, the final R = 0.0608 and wR = 0.1942 for 1226 observed reflections with Ⅰ> 2s(Ⅰ)for the CP 1. The CP 1 possesses a 2D {63} layer structure which is composed of Cu(Ⅰ) centers bridged by L and CN– ligands. The thermal stability and luminescence properties of CP 1 are discussed in detail. The complex also displays a remarkable activity for the degradation of methyl orange by hydrogen peroxide in a Fenton-like process. 展开更多

Single-band red upconversion luminescence(UCL) is vital to in vivo bioimaging as well as 'see and treat' biomedicines. Herein, starting with the previously reported β-NaErF4:Tm UCNPs, we examined the effects of both Yb3+ doping and inert shell coating on the red-to-green(R/G) ratio for Er3+ based UCL. The doping of Yb3+ into the β-NaErF4:Tm3+ core not only enhances the whole UCL intensity, but also raises the R/G ratio by 1.25 times. In addition, the coating of an inert NaYF4 shell, which is usually adopted for the enhancement of UCL intensity, further boosts the R/G value up to as high as 77.92. This work may benefit the potential bioimaging application of single-band red UCL. 展开更多

The NaGdF4:Yb3+,Er3+ nanoparticles probe was used to detect the rhodamine B(RhB) in bean sprout. It is found that the fluorescencedye can be efficiently imbibed during the growing process and the absorbance presented a position dependence effect, which was supported by the upconversion spectra and the fluorescent image characterization. In addition, the concentration of the residual RhB in bean sprout can be efficiently traced by the synthesized probe based on the fluorescent resonant energy transfer. Finally, the relation between the excitation power, concentration and the ratio of yellow to green emission are discussed in detail. These results can be helpful in understanding the RhB dye molecules absorbance process in vegetable growth and provide an efficient way to trace the residual dyes in vivo plant. 展开更多

Presented here is a new heterometallic Cu(I)-Sr(Ⅱ) coordination polymer, [Cu(3)Sr2(isonic)5 Br2(H2O)3]n·n(H2O)(1, Hisonic = isonicotinic acid), has been synthesized via the hydrothermal reactions of CuBr, Sr(NO3)2 and isonicotinic acid. The crystal structure is of triclinic system, space group P1 with a = 7.111(2), b = 14.934(4), c = 18.0255(11) ?, α = 83.137(15), β = 87.155(15), γ = 79.75(2)°, V = 1869.4(8) ?3, C30H29Br2Cu(3)N5O14Sr2, Mr = 1209.27, Z = 2, Dc = 2.148 g/cm3, F(000) = 1178, μ = 6.725 mm-1, R = 0.0500 and wR = 0.1008 for 4688 observed reflections(I > 2s(I)). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that compound 1 features a 3 D heterometallic framework stabilized by bifunctional isonic ligands.
