Continental drift, plateau uplift, and the evolutions of monsoon and arid regions in Asia, Africa, and Australia during the Cenozoic

Monsoon and arid regions in the Asia-Africa-Australia (A-A-A) realm occupy more than 60% of the total area of these continents. Geological evidence showed that significant changes occurred to the A-A-A environments of the monsoon and arid regions, the land-ocean configuration in the Eastern Hemisphere, and the topography of the Tibetan Plateau (TP) in the Cenozoic. Motivated by this background, numerical experiments for 5 typical geological periods during the Cenozoic were conducted using a coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation model to systemically explore the formations and evolutionary histories of the Ceno zoic A-A-A monso on and arid regions un der the influences of contine ntal drift and plateau uplift. Results of the nu merical experime nts indicate that the timings and causes of the formations of monsoon and arid regi ons in the A-A-A realm were very different. The northern and southern African monsoons existed during the mid-Paleocene, while the South Asian monsoon appeared in the Eocene after the Indian Subcontinent moved into the tropical Northern Hemisphere. In contrast, the East Asian mon soon and northern Australian monso on were established much later in the Miocene. The establishment of the tropical monsoons in northern and southern Africa, South Asia, and Australia were determined by both the continental drift and seas onal migratio n of the In ter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), while the position and height of the TP were the key factor for the establishment of the East Asian monsoon. The presence of the subtropical arid regions in northern and southern Africa, Asia, and Australia depended on the positions of the continents and the control of the planetary scale subtropical high pressure zones, while the arid regions in the Arabian Peninsula and West Asia were closely related to the retreat of the Paratethys Sea. The formation of the mid-latitude arid region in the Asian interior, on the other hand, was the consequence of the uplift of the TP. These results from this study provide insi 展开更多

Differences in rainfall budgets between convective and stratiform regions of a torrential rainfall event were investigated using high-resolution simulation data produced by the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model.The convective and stratiform regions were reasonably separated by the radar-based convective–stratiform partitioning method,and the threedimensional WRF-based precipitation equation combining water vapor and hydrometeor budgets was further used to analyze the rainfall budgets.The results showed that the magnitude of precipitation budget processes in the convective region was one order larger than that in the stratiform region.In convective/stratiform updraft regions,precipitation was mainly from the contribution of moisture-related processes,with a small negative contribution from cloud-related processes.In convective/stratiform downdraft regions,cloud-related processes played positive roles in precipitation,while moisture-related processes made a negative contribution.Moisture flux convergence played a dominant role in the moisture-related processes in convective or stratiform updraft regions,which was closely related to large-scale dynamics.Differences in cloud-related processes between convective and stratiform regions were more complex compared with those in moisture-related processes.Both liquid-and ice-phase microphysical processes were strong in convective/stratiform updraft regions,and ice-phase processes were dominant in convective/stratiform downdraft regions.There was strong net latent heating within almost the whole troposphere in updraft regions,especially in the convective updraft region,while the net latent heating(cooling)mainly existed above(below)the zero-layer in convective/stratiform downdraft regions. 展开更多

Here, using the systematic deletion mutants of mf -ssrA tag, we demonstrated that the residues in two separate regions have diff erent functions in mf -Lon-mediated specifi c orthogonal target protein degradation in E. coli . The deletion of multiple residues, up to six amino acids, did not fatally abolish its specifi c degradation activity, instead of being able to improve the stability of the tagged protein in the presence of endogenous proteases before mf -Lon expression in E. coli . Except for previously identifi ed essential residues, the region adjacent to the C-terminal of the mf -ssrA tag was involved in mf -Lon and endogenous protease-mediated degradation. Moreover, the deletion of specifi c residues made the mf -ssrA tag more eff ective and compact. The mf -ssrA tag can be implemented in synthetic biology and bioengineering for development of synthetic circuits. 展开更多

试验旨在研究地域和收获期对天然牧草营养价值的影响。对甘肃省草地面积较大的甘南州合作市、碌曲县、玛曲县和夏河县4个地域,按6、7、8、9、11月份为不同牧草收获期进行采样,每个地域每个收获月份采样在10个重复以上,共采样253份,对其... 试验旨在研究地域和收获期对天然牧草营养价值的影响。对甘肃省草地面积较大的甘南州合作市、碌曲县、玛曲县和夏河县4个地域,按6、7、8、9、11月份为不同牧草收获期进行采样,每个地域每个收获月份采样在10个重复以上,共采样253份,对其进行营养成分测定及其比较。结果表明:不同地域天然牧草的营养价值存在较大差异,不同地域天然牧草品质依次为合作市>夏河县=碌曲县>玛曲县;不同收获期对天然牧草的营养价值有显著影响,随着收获期的滞后,天然牧草中CP含量逐渐降低,而NDF、ADF含量逐渐增高。6、7、8月份天然牧草中CP含量较高,且NDF、ADF含量较低,故牧草品质较好;9月份和11月份天然牧草CP含量明显降低,NDF、ADF含量逐渐增高,牧草品质降低。 展开更多

Evaluation of tourism climate comfort in the Grand Shangri-La region

The Grand Shangri-La(GSL) region has strong international tourist appeal. GSL has considerable international eco-tourist potential as well as being attractive for leisure, vacation, health, explorative, and scientific research activities in addition to high-end tourism experiences. These factors could promote the development of its regional tourism. GSL has been identified as a key area for tourism development in China. In this study, we investigated tourism climate conditions in GSL from 1980 to 2016 using a tourism climate index(TCI). We found that through global warming, the number of annual and monthly good-weather days, as assessed with the TCI, showed an increase over most of GSL;that trend was especially true for very good, excellent, and ideal days. The optimal travel period was May–October. We obtained the same result using cluster heat maps, in which we categorized 31 studied meteorological stations into eight types. However, heavy rainfall tended to occur during that optimal period, and it was concentrated at certain times. The annual total number of comfortable days greater than 300 was mainly located in southern GSL. We observed significant correlations between monthly and annual excellent and ideal days with latitude and elevation;in particular, we identified a significant nonlinear correlation between excellent(and ideal) days and elevation. 展开更多

In this paper, the research result... The problems of frost damage in cold region tunnels have been systematically analyzed and studied by local and foreign scholars. A series of important achievements has been proposed. In this paper, the research results on mechanism of frost damage, analysis of temperature field, classification of frost damage levels, and frost prevention technologies are summarized. The principles and limitations of the three major theories of frost damage mechanism are elaborated, and the importance of structural damage research on shotcrete in cold region tunnels is emphasized. Two major defects of current research on temperature field are concluded. The present situation of research on frost damage classification of cold region tunnels is discussed. The directions of further studies for tunnel temperature field and frost damage classification are proposed. The prevention technologies for tunnel frost damage in foreign countries, and the advantages and disadvantages of the four major prevention technologies in China and their applicable conditions, are concluded and analyzed. Meanwhile, the importance of frost damage classification is highlighted. Therefore, the local and foreign research results for cold region tunnels are systematically concluded, the defects of the researches are comprehensively analyzed, and the directions of further study are proposed. In an erbium-doped fiber laser system, the laser regimes of either 1530 or 1550 nm wavelength are procured based on the absorption profile of the erbium-doped fiber. The absorption of the erbium-doped fiber is designed to emit at both wavelengths by controlling the net gain of the laser cavity. Subsequently, simultaneous erbium-doped fiber laser emission is attained at 1533.5 and 1555.1 nm with the pulse duration of 910 and 850 fs, respectively.Therefore, this work maximizes the output portfolios of a mode-locking fiber laser for dual-wavelength ultrashort pulses emission. 展开更多

At present,most underwater positioning algorithms improve the positioning accuracy by increasing the number of anchor nodes which resulting in the increasing energy consumption.To solve this problem,the paper proposes a localization algorithm assisted by mobile anchor node and based on region determination(LMRD),which not only improves the positioning accuracy of nodes positioning but also reduces the energy consumption.This algorithm is divided into two stages:region determination stage and location positioning stage.In the region determination stage,the target region is divided into several sub-regions by the region division strategy with the smallest overlap rate which can reduce the number of virtual anchor nodes and lock the target node to a sub-region,and then through the planning of mobile nodes to optimize the travel path,reduce the moving distance,and reduce system energy consumption.In the location positioning stage,the target node location can be calculated using the HILBERT path planning and trilateration.The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the positioning accuracy when the energy consumption is reduced. 展开更多
