In today’s society, the Internet, big data and artificial intelligence are being integrated and the mechanisms of resource allocations are also evolving, mainly because of the changes in background factors, means, and processes that influence resource allocation. To analyze and study this evolution, we need to combine resource allocation, industrial organization, and industrial regulation theories to determine the driving and restricting factors new technologies bring to business-to-business and business-to-consumer interactions and how the combination of internet, big data and AI will impact productivity and pricing. We must also analyze the differences between today’s supply-demand and pricing processes and those of the industrial age to discover whether there are special resource allocation mechanisms in this era and how to summarize them theoretically. This paper reviews the evolved resource allocation mechanisms at the present stage of the integration of the Internet, big data and AI based on resource allocation theories from classical Marxian, neoclassical, and modern western economics. 展开更多

Mean-field Macro Computation in Large-scale Cloud Service Systems with Resource Management and Job Scheduling

Service computing is an emerging and distributed computing mode in cloud service systems, and has become an interesting research direction for both academia and industry. Note that the cloud service systems always display new characteristics, such as stochasticity, large scale, loose coupling, concurrency non-homogeneity and heterogeneity;thus their load balancing investigation has been more interesting, difficult and challenging until now. By using resource management and job scheduling, this paper proposes an integrated, real-time and dynamic control mechanism for large-scale cloud service systems and their load balancing through combining supermarket models with not only work stealing models but also scheduling of public reserved resource. To this end, this paper provides a novel stochastic model with weak interactions by means of nonlinear Markov processes. To overcome theoretical difficulties growing out of the state explosion in high-dimensional stochastic systems, this paper applies the mean-field theory to develop a macro computational technique in terms of an infinite-dimensional system of mean-field equations. Furthermore, this paper proves the asymptotic independence of the large-scale cloud service system, and show how to compute the fixed point by virtue of an infinite-dimensional system of nonlinear equations. Based on the fixed point, this paper provides effective numerical computation for performance analysis of this system under a high approximate precision. Therefore, we hope that the methodology and results given in this paper can be applicable to the study of more general large-scale cloud service systems. 展开更多

Coordinated partitioning and resource sharing have attracted considerable research interest in the field of real-time multiprocessor systems.However,finding an optimal partition is widely known as NP-hard,even for independent tasks.A recently proposed resource-oriented partitioned(ROP)fixed-priority scheduling that partitions tasks and shared resources respectively has been shown to achieve a non-trivial speedup factor guarantee,which promotes the research of coordinated scheduling to a new level.Despite the theoretical elegance,the schedulability performance of ROP scheduling is restricted by the heuristic partitioning methods used in the original study.In this paper,we address the partitioning problem for tasks and shared resources under the ROP scheduling.A unified schedulability analysis framework for the ROP scheduling is proposed in the first place.A sophisticated partitioning approach based on integer linear programming(ILP)is then proposed based on the unified analysis.Empirical results show that the proposed methods improve the schedulability of ROP scheduling significantly,and the runtime complexity for searching a solution is reduced prominently compared with other ILP-based approaches as well. 展开更多

Dispersal is an important area of ecological and evolutionary research.Although many studies have been conducted in mammals and birds,dispersal pattern in amphibians is still unclear.To verify dispersal patterns of amphibians,an endangered species the Emei Moustache Toad(Leptobrachium boringii)was selected.In this study,we analyzed six genetic parameters:inbreeding coefficient(FIS),gene diversity(HS),the mean of corrected assignment index(mAIC),the variance of corrected assignment index(vAIC),relatedness(r)for all three years together and each year separately based on eight highly polymorphic microsatellite loci.Data in totaled across years and each year for 581 individuals captured during 2013–2015 revealed a significant female-biased dispersal pattern.Significantly higher FIS and HS in females,and lower mAIC and r for each year separately in females support that L.boringii displays femalebiased dispersal,although r for the total dataset and vAIC tests did not show significant differences between the sexes.Female-biased dispersal patterns may be explained by the local resource competition hypothesis. 展开更多

Mobile edge caching technology is gaining more and more attention because it can effectively improve the Quality of Experience (QoE) of users and reduce backhaul burden. This paper aims to improve the utility of mobile edge caching technology from the perspectie of caching resource management by examining a network composed of one operator, multiple users and Content Providers (CPs). The caching resource management model is constructed on the premise of fully considering the QoE of users and the servicing capability of the Base Station (BS). In order to create the best caching resource allocation scheme, the original problem is transformed into a multi-leader multi-follower Stackelberg game model through the analysis of the system model. The strategy combinations and the utility functions of players are analyzed. The existence and uniqueness of the Nash Equilibrium (NE) solution are also analyzed and proved. The optimal strategy combinations and the best responses are deduced in detail. Simulation results and analysis show that the proposed model and algorithm can achieve the optimal allocation of caching resource and improve the QoE of users. 展开更多

Silver recovery as Ag~0 nanoparticles from ion-exchange regenerant solution using electrolysis

Many silver(Ag)containing consumer-products(e.g.textiles)release Ag into the environment,posing ecotoxicological risks.Ag recovery mitigates environmental hazards,recycles Ag,and leads to sustainability.In the present work,Ag has been recovered as Ag~0nanoparticles from the spent solution(thiourea(TU)~0.5 mol/L pH~1.1–1.2,and Ag~550 mg/L)obtained from the regeneration of an Ag-loaded resin using a simple undivided electrolytic cell.The reclaimed regenerant solution has been recycled and reused in a closed-loop scheme over multiple cycles.The process parameters,i.e.,current(0.05 A)and stirring speed(600 r/min),have been optimized for Ag recovery of~94%and TU loss of~2%.The reclaimed regenerant solution has been shown to regenerate Ag-loaded resin samples with>90%regeneration efficiency over 4 cycles of consecutive extraction and regeneration.The recovered Ag~0nanoparticles are monodisperse,consistently spherical in shape,and have a mean diameter of~6 nm with standard deviation of the Gaussian fit as~2.66 nm. 展开更多

A comprehensive resource optimization framework is designed for incremental amplify-andforward orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(AF-OFDM)relaying systems to maximize the network lifetime.Specifically,joint channel and power assignment,i.e.,all degrees of freedom such as incremental policy,channel pairing,relay selection,and power allocation,are optimized with quality of service(QoS)constraints.The lifetime maximization problem is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming which at first glance seems mathematically intractable.However,a two-nested search loop,in which the outer loop varies the lifetime based on bisection criterion until finding the optimum while the inner loop attempts to derive the corresponding feasible solution set for that given lifetime by employing dual decomposition and subgradient techniques,is then presented to solve it.Numerical results are shown to verify the near-optimality and the effectiveness of our proposal. 展开更多
