Vee-tail conceptual design criteria for commercial transport aeroplanes

Vee-tail configuration is an unconventional tail configuration for commercial transport aviation, the use of which could suppose reductions on CO2 emissions. The conceptual design criteria have been selected inspired on the certification requirements established by the aviation regulation in force. They are static stability in cruise, control after Critical Engine Failure(CEF),control in crosswind landing, and trim in these three conditions. The study is carried out through a combination of semi-empirical techniques and Vortex-Lattice Methods(VLM) and thus this analyses the consequences of applying these criteria to a reference aeroplane substituting its conventional tail by a parametrised Vee-tail configuration. The Vee-tail is defined by four parameters:span, root chord, taper ratio and dihedral angle. The results of the study establish a relation between the parameters in order to accomplish the proposed conceptual design criteria. To sum up, minimum and maximum limits are obtained for dihedral angle depending on the combination of the rest of parameters. In addition, a design restriction to the yawing trailing-edge tail control is reached when the results are analysed, demonstrating that its minimum size must be between 60%and 80% of the half-span of the tail, depending on the Vee-tail geometry. 展开更多

The pulsed-spray fluid-bed granulation (PSFBG) process was investigated and optimized using definitive scree ning design, a recently proposed new class of three-level desig n of experiment method. Such a design enabled quadratic models to be established that described the effect of six in put process parameters - inlet air temperature, inlet air humidity, binder spray rate, atomization pressure, pulse period, and pulse width - on the granule quality in a PSFBG process. Mathematical models of the mean particle size, relative size distribution width, production yield, and porosity were developed to quantify the relationships between the in flue ncing factors and critical quality attributes. On the basis of con strai nts on the desired granule properties, a design space for PSFBG was determined and ranges of the operating parameters were defined. An acceptable degree of prediction was confirmed by validation experiments, demonstrating the reliability and effectiveness of using definitive screening design to study the PSFBG process. This method can accelerate screening and optimization of this process within a large multidimensional design space. 展开更多

Peak displacement patterns for the performance-based seismic design of steel eccentrically braced frames 预览

Performance-based seismic design(PBSD) aims to assess structures at different damage states. Since damage can be directly associated to displacements, seismic design with consideration of displacement seems to be logical. In this study, simple formulae to estimate the peak floor displacement patterns of eccentrically braced frames(EBFs) at different performance levels subjected to earthquake ground motions are proposed. These formulae are applicable in a PBSD and especially in direct displacement-based design(DDBD). Parametric study is conducted on a group of 30 EBFs under a set of 15 far field and near field accelerograms which they scaled to different amplitudes to adapt various performance levels. The results of thousands of nonlinear dynamic analyses of EBFs have been post-processed by nonlinear regression analysis in order to recognize the major parameters that influence the peak displacement pattern of these frames. Results show that suggested displacement patterns have relatively good agreement with those acquired by an exact nonlinear dynamic analysis. 展开更多

Designing Uniform Computer Sequential Experiments with Mixture Levels Using Lee Discrepancy

Uniform designs have good performance in computer experiments from several aspects. In practical use, the experimenter needs to choose a small size uniform design at the beginning of an experiment due to a limit of time, budget, resources, and so on, and later conduct a follow up experiment to obtain precious information about the system, that is, a sequential experiment. The Lee distance has been widely used in coding theory and its corresponding discrepancy is an important measure for constructing uniform designs. This paper proves that all the follow up designs of a uniform design are uniform and at least two of them can be used as optimal follow up experimental designs. Thus, it is not necessary that the union of any two uniform designs yields a uniform sequential design. Therefore, this article presents a theoretical justification for choosing the best follow up design of a uniform design to construct a uniform sequential design that involves a mixture of ω≥ 1 factors with β_k ≥ 2, 1 ≤ k ≤ωlevels. For illustration of the usage of the proposed results, a closer look is given at using these results for the most extensively used six particular cases, three symmetric and three asymmetric designs, which are often met in practice. 展开更多

The analysis of the fluid characteristics downstream of a fire source in transportation tunnels is one the most important factor in the emergency response,evacuation,and the rescue service studies.Some crucial parameters can affect the fluid characteristics downstream of the fire.This research develops a statistical analysis on the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)data of the road tunnel fire simulations in order to quantify the significance of tunnel dimensions,inlet air velocity,heat release rate,and the physical fire size(fire perimeter)on the fluid characteristics downstream of the fire source.The selected characteristics of the fluid(response variables)were the average temperature,the average density,the average viscosity,and the average velocity.The prediction of the designed statistical models was assessed;then the significant parameters’effects and the parameters interactive effects on different response variables were determined individually.Next,the effect of computational domain length on the selection of the significant parameters downstream of the fire source was analyzed.In this statistical analysis,the linear models were found to provide the statistically good prediction.The effect of the fire perimeter and the parameters interactive effects on the selected response variables downstream of the fire,were found to be insignificant. 展开更多

This paper estimates the population to be influenced by China's policy of postponed retirement age and provides design strategies and suggestions in the workplace for the ageing workforce from the perspective of inclusive design.First,the literature review about western design principles and practices for the ageing workforce is conducted.It is estimated that China would face approximately 100 million elderly workers in the near future with diverse physical conditions and demands.However,the design research and practices dedicated to ageing workforce in the workplace are comparatively weak in China.Inclusive design,one of the design approaches mainly focusing on ageing problems in developed countries,as well as its theory and methodology,could act as a good reference for Chinese policymakers and designers.Then based on the concept of inclusive design,a human-centered design model is established and design suggestions from four aspects are presented.Finally,two cases are further discussed to illustrate the idea of inclusive design. 展开更多

The energy conversion efficiency of a multistage synchronous induction coilgun(MSSICG) has become one of the key factors that restricts its industrialization. To improve the launch efficiency of medium-and high-velocity MSSICG,we propose an optimization design scheme combining orthogonal experimental design(OED) and self-consistent design method in this paper. The OED is introduced to reduce the number of iterations and improve the identification accuracy and efficiency. A self-consistent design model is established to overcome a defect that the parameters that need to be optimized will multiply as the number of coil stages increases. The influence of six factors(radial thickness of armature, axial length of armature, axial length of coil, capacitance, wire diameter, and slip speed) on the launch efficiency are then evaluated by range analysis. 目的设计和应用一种可自动增压和可调控氧气流量的氧气枕,用以解决临床危重患者在院内转运中的不便。方法新型氧气枕使用一种有机玻璃材质的氧气枕外罩和弹簧板,对氧气软枕外部进行持续的自动的均匀加压;使用可控调节流量阀和可显示流... 目的设计和应用一种可自动增压和可调控氧气流量的氧气枕,用以解决临床危重患者在院内转运中的不便。方法新型氧气枕使用一种有机玻璃材质的氧气枕外罩和弹簧板,对氧气软枕外部进行持续的自动的均匀加压;使用可控调节流量阀和可显示流量的氧气装置,以调控和监测氧气枕输出流量,应用于患者的院内转运。将神经科重症病房中患者根据入科时间入组,对照组和观察组各80例进行对比。结果此新型氧气枕可通过新增配件自动持续供氧,并保证氧气流量的调控准确和稳定。通过临床应用,将两组患者在转运中氧气流量稳定性、患者氧疗的有效性和护士满意度进行比较,差异具有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论改良后的氧气枕克服了传统氧气枕在使用中的不足,在临床院内转运危重患者的氧气需求中具有方便性、安全性、可控性、准确性等优点。 展开更多
