Silver recovery as Ag~0 nanoparticles from ion-exchange regenerant solution using electrolysis

Many silver(Ag)containing consumer-products(e.g.textiles)release Ag into the environment,posing ecotoxicological risks.Ag recovery mitigates environmental hazards,recycles Ag,and leads to sustainability.In the present work,Ag has been recovered as Ag~0nanoparticles from the spent solution(thiourea(TU)~0.5 mol/L pH~1.1–1.2,and Ag~550 mg/L)obtained from the regeneration of an Ag-loaded resin using a simple undivided electrolytic cell.The reclaimed regenerant solution has been recycled and reused in a closed-loop scheme over multiple cycles.The process parameters,i.e.,current(0.05 A)and stirring speed(600 r/min),have been optimized for Ag recovery of~94%and TU loss of~2%.The reclaimed regenerant solution has been shown to regenerate Ag-loaded resin samples with>90%regeneration efficiency over 4 cycles of consecutive extraction and regeneration.The recovered Ag~0nanoparticles are monodisperse,consistently spherical in shape,and have a mean diameter of~6 nm with standard deviation of the Gaussian fit as~2.66 nm. 展开更多

Peripheral nerve injuries caused by accidents may lead to paralysis,sensory disturbances,anaesthesia,and lack of autonomic functions.Functional recovery after disconnection of the motoneuronal soma from target tissue with proximal rupture of axons is determined by several factors:motoneuronal soma viability,proper axonal sprouting across inhibitory zones and elongation toward specific muscle,effective synapse contact rebuilding,and prevention of muscle atrophy.Therapies,such as adjuvant drugs with pleiotropic effects,that promote functional recovery after peripheral nerve injury are needed.Toward this aim,we designed a drug discovery workflow based on a network-centric molecular vision using unbiased proteomic data and neural artificial computational tools.Our focus is on boosting intrinsic capabilities of neurons for neuroprotection;this is in contrast to the common approach based on suppression of a pathobiological pathway known to be associated with disease condition.Using our workflow,we discovered neuroheal,a combination of two repurposed drugs that promotes motoneuronal soma neuroprotection,is anti-inflammatory,enhances axonal regeneration after axotomy,and reduces muscle atrophy.This drug discovery workflow has thus yielded a therapy that is close to its clinical application. 展开更多

Dam removal is becoming an effective approach for aquatic biodiversity restoration in damming river in order to balance the aquatic ecosystem conservation with large-scale cascade damming. However, the effects of dam removal on fish communities in Asian mountainous rivers, which are dominated by Cypriniformes fishes, are still not well known. To determine whether dam removal on a mountainous river benefit restoration of fish diversity, we investigated the response of fish assemblage to dam removal using a before-after-control-impact design in two tributaries of the Lancang River(dam removal river: the Jidu River, and control river: the Fengdian River). Fish surveys were conducted one year prior to dam removal(2012) and three years(2013–2015) following dam removal. We observed rapidly and notably spatio-temporal changes in fish biodiversity metrics and assemblage structure, occurring in the Jidu River within the first year after dam removal. Overall, fish species richness, density and Shannon-Wiener diversity all increased immediately in above-and below-dam sites, and maintained a stable level in subsequent years, compared to unchanged situation in the control river. All sites in the Jidu River experienced shifts in fish composition after dam removal, with the greatest temporal changes occurred in sites below-and above-the former dam, resulting in a temporal homogenization tendency in the dam removed river. These findings suggest that dam removal can benefit the recovery of habitat conditions and fish community in Asian mountainous rivers, but the results should be further evaluated when apply to other dammed rivers since the dam age, fluvial geomorphology and situation of source populations could all affect the responses of fish assemblages. 展开更多

In order to clarify the recrystallization mechanism of low-densityδ-ferrite steel Fe-4AI-2Ni,interrupted and single-pass compression tests were carried out.In this regard,five deformation temperatures(750-950 at an interval of 50°C)and different hold time were selected.It was observed that the softening and recrystallization fraction was enhaneed with increased deformation temperature and hold time.The original grain bounclaries were the preferred nucleation sites for recrystallized grains,and recrystallization had an impact on obtaining homogeneous and fine-grained structure.Recrystallization in the ferritic alloy commenced after a significant degree of softening,and the softening associated with recovery was appreciably less.The optimum rolling deformation temperature was identified to be greater than 900°C. 展开更多

The aim of this review was to systematically compare the outcomes of enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)with standard care(SC)after radical cystectomy.We performed a systematic search of PubMed,Ovid?Web of Science,and the Cochrane Library to identify studies published until September 2017 which involved a comparison of ERAS and SC.A meta-analysis was performed to assess the outcomes of ERAS versus SC.Sixteen studies including 8 prospective and 8 retrospective trials met the eligibility criteria.A total of 2100 participants were assigned to ERAS(1258 cases)or SC(842 cases).The time to first flatus passage[WMD=-0.95 days,95%Cl(-1.50,-0.41),P=0.0006],time until return to a regular diet[WMD=-2.15 days,95%Cl(-2.86,—1.45),P<0.00001]and the length of hospital stay[WMD=-3.75 days,95%Cl(-5.13,-2.36),P<0.00001]were significantly shorter,and the incidence of postoperative complications[OR=0.60,95%Cl(0.44,0.83),P=0.002],especially postoperative paralytic ileus[OR=0.43,95%Cl(0.30,0.62),P<0.00001]and cardiovascular complications[OR=0.28,95%Cl(0.09,0.90),P=0.03]was significantly lower in the ERAS group than those in the SC group.This meta-analysis demonstrated that ERAS was associated with a shorter time to first flatus passage,return of bowel fimction,and the length of hospital stay than SC in patients undergoing radical cystectomy,as well as a lower rate of postoperative complications,especially paralytic ileus and cardiovascular complications. 展开更多

Learning curve of enhanced recovery after surgery program in open colorectal surgery 预览

BACKGROUND Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) reduces hospitalization and complication following colorectal surgery. Whether the experience of multidisciplinary ERAS team affects patients’ outcomes is unknown. AIM To evaluate and establish a learning curve of ERAS program for open colorectal surgery. METHODS This was a review of prospectively collected database of 380 “unselected” patients undergoing elective “open” colectomy and/or proctectomy under ERAS protocol from 2011 (commencing ERAS application) to 2017 in a university hospital. Patients were divided into 5 chronological groups (76 cases per quintile). Surgical outcomes and ERAS compliance among quintiles were compared. Learning curves were calculated based on criteria of optimal recovery: defined as absence of major postoperative complications, discharge by postoperative day 5, and no 30-d readmission. RESULTS Hospitalization more than 5 d occurred in 22.6%(n = 86), major complication was present in 2.9%(n = 11) and 30-d readmission rate was 2.4%(n = 9) accounting for unsuccessful recovery of 25%(n = 95). Conversely, the overall rate of optimal recovery was 75%. The optimal recovery significantly increased from 57.9% in 1st quintile to 72.4%-85.5% in the following quintiles (P < 0.001). Average compliance with ERAS protocol gradually increased over the time - from 68.6% in 1st quintile to 75.5% in 5th quintile (P < 0.001). The application of preoperative counseling, nutrition support, goal-directed fluid therapy, O-ring wound protector and scheduled mobilization significantly increased over the study period.CONCLUSION A number of 76 colorectal operations are required for a multidisciplinary team to achieve a significantly higher rate of optimal recovery and high compliance with ERAS program for open colorectal surgery. 展开更多

Predicting the future information and recovering the missing data for time series are two vital tasks faced in various application fields.They are often subjected to big challenges,especially when the signal is nonlinear and nonstationary which is common in practice.In this paper,we propose a hybrid 2-stage approach,named IF2FNN,to predict(including short-term and long-term predictions)and recover the general types of time series.In the first stage,we decompose the original non-stationary series into several“quasi stationary”intrinsic mode functions(IMFs)by the iterative filtering(IF)method.In the second stage,all of the IMFs are fed as the inputs to the factorization machine based neural network model to perform the prediction and recovery.We test the strategy on five datasets including an artificial constructed signal(ACS),and four real-world signals:the length of day(LOD),the northern hemisphere land-ocean temperature index(NHLTI),the troposphere monthly mean temperature(TMMT),and the national association of securities dealers automated quotations index(NASDAQ).The results are compared with those obtained from the other prevailing methods.Our experiments indicate that under the same conditions,the proposed method outperforms the others for prediction and recovery according to various metrics such as mean absolute error(MAE),root mean square error(RMSE),and mean absolute percentage error(MAPE). 展开更多
