The definition of the thixotropy is a decrease in viscosity with time in shear and a subsequent recovery of viscosity after the shear deformation is removed.We used therefore start-up experiments with constant shear rates and can speak consequently of shear stress instead of viscosity.The shear stress increases sharply at the beginning of the stress growth experiment,passes an overshoot and begins to decrease up to the steady state shear stress.We can assume that a stress growth curve with an overshoot points out to thixotropic behavior.After the steady state shear stress is reached,the shear deformation is stopped,and the stress relaxation begins.It is to be expected that the shear stress will recover after the stress relaxation.Systems with shear thinning and plastic flow behavior were examined.The thixotropy is discussed in relation to the flow behavior.Stress growth experiments were performed with shear rates from the first Newtonian region and from the shear thinning region of the systems with shear thinning flow behavior.Stress start-up experiments were carrying out with shear rates from the first and second yield stress regions and from the transition section of a system with plastic flow behavior. 展开更多

Universally composable oblivious transfer from ideal lattice

However, most OT protocols are built upon some quantum non-immune crypt... As a fundamental cryptographic primitive, oblivious transfer (OT) is developed for the sake of efficient usability and combinational feasibility. However, most OT protocols are built upon some quantum non-immune cryptosystems by assuming the hardness of discrete logarithm or factoring problem, whose security will break down directly in the quantum setting. Therefore, as a subarea of postquantum cryptography, lattice-based cryptography is viewed as a promising alternative and cornerstone to support for building post-quantum protocols since it enjoys some attractive properties, such as provable security against quantum adversaries and lower asymptotic complexity. In this paper, we first build an efficient 1-out-of-2 OT protocol upon the hardness of ring learning with errors (RLWE) problem, which is at least as hard as some worst-case ideal lattice problems. We show that this 1-out-of-2 OT protocol can be universally composable and secure against static corruptions in the random oracle model. Then we extend it to a general case, i.e., 1-out-of-N OT with achieving the same level of security. Furthermore, on the basis of the above OT structure, we obtain two improved OT protocols using two improved lattice-based key exchange protocols (respectively relying on the RLWE problem and learning with errors (LWE) problem, and both achieving better efficiency by removing the Gaussian sampling for saving cost) as building blocks. To show that our proposed OT protocol indeed achieves comparable security and efficiency, we make a comparison with another two lattice-based OT protocols in the end of the paper. With concerning on the potential threat from quantum computing and expecting on the practical use of OT with high efficiency, an efficient post-quantum OT protocol is pressing needed. As shown in this paper, our proposed OT protocols may be considered as post-quantum OT candidates since they can both preserve provable security relying on lattice problems and enjoy practical efficiency. 展开更多

Optimal treatment for patients with unresectable, locally advanced SNUC (LA-SNUC) has not been established,... BACKGROUND Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) is a rare aggressive tumor that is often unresectable. Optimal treatment for patients with unresectable, locally advanced SNUC (LA-SNUC) has not been established, and the patient outcome remains poor. We report two cases of unresectable LA-SNUC in which induction chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin and fluorouracil (TPF) followed by radiotherapy with concurrent cisplatin (CCRT), a standard treatment option for locally advanced head and neck cancer, demonstrated promising outcomes. CASE SUMMARY A 39-year-old man presented with tearing and pain in the right eye. A biopsy of the tumor invading the sinonasal cavities, right orbit and cranial base confirmed the diagnosis of LA-SNUC. Induction TPF chemotherapy induced remarkable tumor shrinkage and rapidly improved the symptoms. He subsequently received CCRT and achieved complete remission of the disease. The other case is a 21-year-old man who presented with worsening vision. The unresectable tumor involving the nasal septum and cranial base was pathologically diagnosed as SNUC. TPF chemotherapy followed by CCRT yielded complete remission of the disease with preserved visual function. Both patients have been disease-free for 44 mo. CONCLUSION Induction TPF chemotherapy followed by CCRT may remarkably improve the outcomes in LA-SNUC patients. 展开更多

Otitis media with effusion(OME)is a frequent paediatric disorder.The condition is often asymptomatic,and so can easily be missed.However,OME can lead to hearing loss that impairs the child's language and behavioural development.The diagnosis is essentially clinical,and is based on otoscopy and(in some cases)tympanometry.Nasal endoscopy is only indicated in cases of unilateral OME or when obstructive adenoid hypertrophy is suspected.Otitis media with effusion is defined as the observation of middle-ear effusion at consultations three months apart.Hearing must be evaluated(using an age-appropriate audiometry technique)before and after treatment,so as not to miss another underlying cause of deafness(e.g.perception deafness).Craniofacial dysmorphism,respiratory allergy and gastro-oesophageal reflux all favour the development of OME.Although a certain number of medications(antibiotics,corticoids,antihistamines,mucokinetic agents,and nasal decongestants)can be used to treat OME,they are not reliably effective and rarely provide long-term relief.The benchmark treatment for OME is placement of tympanostomy tubes(TTs)and(in some cases)adjunct adenoidectomy.The TTs rapidly normalize hearing and effectively prevent the development of cholesteatoma in the middle ear.In contrast,TTs do not prevent progression towards tympanic atrophy or a retraction pocket.Adenoidectomy enhances the effectiveness of TTs.In children with adenoid hypertrophy,adenoidectomy is indicated before the age of 4 but can be performed later when OME is identified by nasal endoscopy.Children must be followed up until OME has disappeared completely,so that any complications are not missed. 展开更多

Analyzing Population Density Disparity in China with GIS-automated Regionalization: The Hu Line Revisited 预览

The famous ’Hu Line’, proposed by Hu Huanyong in 1935, divided China into two regions(southeast and northwest) of comparable area size but drastically different in population. However, the classic Hu Line was derived manually in absence of reliable census data and computational technologies of modern days. It has been subject to criticism of lack of scientific rigor and accuracy. This research uses a GIS-automated regionalization method, termed REDCAP(Regionalization with Dynamically Constrained Agglomerative Clustering and Partitioning), to reconstruct the demarcation line based on the 2010 county-level census data in China. The results show that the logarithmic transformation of population density is a better measure of attributive homogeneity in derived regions than density itself, and produces two regions of nearly identical area size and greater contrast in population. Specifically, the revised Hu Line by Hu Huanyong in 1990 had the southeast region with 94.4% of total population and 42.9% of total land, and our delineation line yields a southeast region with 97.4% population and 50.8% land. Therefore, the population density ratio of the two regions is 27.1 by our line, much higher than the ratio of 22.4 by the Hu Line, and thus outperforms the Hu Line in deriving regions of maximum density contrast with comparable area size. Furthermore, more regions are delineated to further advance our understanding of population distribution disparity in China. 展开更多

One kind is a switchable-wavelength all-FMF HOM laser with an output of tunable optical vortex beams(OVBs);the other is a Q-switched all-FMF HOM laser with an output of pulsed cylindrical vector beams(CVBs). The lasers are composed of all-FMF components and few-mode erbium-doped fiber. A Sagnac interferometer made of a 3 dB FMF coupler functions as the wavelength selector, and switchable multiwavelength tunable OVBs are experimentally realized. Carbon nanotube-based saturable absorbers and the nonlinear polarization rotation technique are used to achieve Q-switched CVB lasers. This is the first report, to our knowledge, on the generation of switchable-wavelength and Q-switched HOM beams in all-FMF laser cavities. 展开更多

A new visualization method for studying the damage to gel structure caused by high salinity ions is explored by using the characteristics of suppression image signal of Mn^2+ and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) imaging technique. The diffusion and distribution characteristics of Mn^2+ in porous media-gel system were studied based on manganese chloride static diffusion and gel flooding experiments, and the gel’s nuclear magnetic image and displacement pressure were tested. The results show that the diffusion of Mn^2+conforms to the Fick diffusion law in porous media-gel system, and the diffusion speed of Mn^2+ increases and the area of gel image decreases gradually with the increase of concentration, and the image of gel decreases faster and the pressure drop of water drive is larger in flooding experiment of manganese chloride with higher concentration. Reaction-diffusion model with the reaction of Mn^2+ with gel was established to study the concentration distribution characteristics of Mn^2+. The model is validated by comparing the results with magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) experiments and the diffusion coefficient of Mn^2+ equals 1.6 mm^2/h, and the minimum concentration of Mn^2+ to impact gel NMR image signals is 2.5 g/L. The above results show that the diffusion of Mn^2+ into the gel in the rock core inhibits the imaging signal of the gel and damages its strength, and the greater the concentration is, the greater the influence. Increase of adsorption amount of gel and reaction rate, reduction of diffusion time, and addition of ion adsorption isolator all can reduce the impact of Mn^2+ on the gel. 展开更多

Microstructure and mechanical properties of A356 alloy with yttrium addition processed by hot extrusion

The effects of the rare earth element yttrium(Y) and hot extrusion on the microstructure and mechanical properties of A356 alloy were investigated by mechanical properties testing and microstructure observation. The results indicate that the addition of Y improves the microstructure of the as-cast alloy. The distribution of primary α-Al is uniform and orderly. The long needle-like eutectic Si phases and β-Fe phases turn to strips and short rods. When the content of Y increases to 0.2 wt%, the mean diameter of aAl(40.3 μm) and the aspect ratio of the eutectic Si phase(2.3) reach the minimum values, which are68.9% and 86.1% lower, respectively, than that of the alloy without Y addition. Under extrusion stress, the shape of the eutectic Si phase is changed from long rod-like to near grain-like after solution treatment.The size of the eutectic Si phase is significantly reduced. The needle-like β-Fe phases are squeezed and broken. The mechanical properties of the as-extruded alloy are significantly improved compared to the as-cast alloy. When the rare earth content is 0.2 wt%, the ultimate tensile strength, hardness and elongation of the alloy reach the maximum values, which are 328.2 MPa, 110.4 HV and 21.3%, respectively, and increase by 42.01%, 37.71% and 481.91%, respectively, in comparison to the as-cast alloy without Y addition. 展开更多

The report also stressed that building an ecological civilization is vital to sustaining the Chinese nation’s development.
