This study aimed to find a model to forecast monthly measles immunization coverage using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). The monthly registered data for measles immunization coverage from January 2014 to December 2018 were used for the development of the model. The best model with the smallest Normalized Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) of 8.673 is ARIMA (0, 1, 0). ARIMA (0, 1, 0) was used to forecast the monthly measles immunization coverage for the next 36 months from January 2018 to December 2020. The results obtained prove that this model can be used for forecasting future immunization coverage and will help decision-makers to establish strategies, priorities, and proper use of immunization resources. 展开更多

This study utilized Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) in assessing the efficiency of health center in tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Assessing the efficiency of health center treating TB is a vital and sensitive topic, because there is a cumulative amount of public funds devoted to healthcare. In this research, a DEA model has been correlated to evaluate and assess the efficiency of 17 health centers. The researchers selected the health budget and the number of health workers as input variables likewise, the number of people served, number of TB patients served, and TB patients treated (%) as output variables. Based on the result of the study, only five (5) health centers out of seventeen (17) have 100% efficiencies throughout the 2 years period. It is recommended that other health centers should learn from their efficient peers recognized by the DEA model so as to increase the overall performance of the healthcare system. Likewise, health centers should integrate Health Information Technology to deliver healthier care for their patients. 展开更多

Treatment relapse continues to place a severe problem on patients and TB programs worldwide. A significant reason for the development of decline is poor compliance with medical treatments. The objectives of this research are to generate a predictive data mining model to classify the treatment relapse of TB patients and to identify the features influencing the category of treatment relapse. The TB patient dataset is applied and tested in decision tree J48 algorithm using WEKA. The J48 model identified the three (3) significant independent variables (DSSM Result, Age, and Sex) as predictors of category treatment relapse. 展开更多

Splenomegaly, sometimes of massive extent, occurs in a large number of hereditary diseases, some relatively prevalent and others, rare to ultra-rare. Because physicians are often unfamiliar with the less common disorders, patients may suffer because of diagnostic delay or diagnostic error and may undergo invasive, non-innocuous procedures such as splenectomy that are potentially avoidable were the correct diagnosis suspected. In this review article, we discuss the definition and clinical ramifications of “massive” splenomegaly and describe several rare genetic disorders that are sometimes associated with marked splenic enlargement as well as four additional hereditary “splenomegalic” lysosomal storage diseases (cholesterol esterase storage disease, Niemann-Pick C disease, acid sphingomyelinase deficiency disease, Gaucher disease) in which approved or promising experimental treatments should generally obviate the need for palliative splenectomy. We also summarize current concepts about the appropriate use of splenectomy in patients with β-thalassemia, hereditary spherocytosis and Gaucher disease and discuss surgical alternatives to classical total splenectomy for these disorders. 展开更多
