In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter;neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. Under development by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of theChinese Academy of Sciences, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s. 展开更多

These include flaring stars, supernova remnants, accreting white dwarfs, low and high mass X-raybinaries, radio quiet and radio loud active galactic nuclei, tidal disruption events, and gamma-ray bursts. eXTP will be excellentlysuited to study one common aspect of these objects: their often transient nature. In this paper we describe the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for studies related to accretion flows in the strong field gravity regime around both stellar-mass and supermassive black-holes. eXTP has the unique capability of using advanced “spectral-timing-polarimetry” techniques to analyze the rapid variations with three orthogonal diagnostics of the flow and its geometry, yielding unprecedented insight into the inner accreting regions, the effects of strong field gravity on the material within them and the powerful outflows which are driven by the accretion process. 展开更多

In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission----eXTP,eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density,gravity and magnetism.The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density,measuring effects of QED,and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity.In addition to investigating fundamental physics,eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects.In particular,its wide field monitoring capabilities will be highly instrumental to detect the electro-magnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources. The paper provides a detailed description of:(1)the technological and technical aspects,and the expected performance of the instruments of the scientific payload;(2)the elements and functions of the mission,from the spacecraft to the ground segment. 展开更多

Studies of e+e?→D+sDˉˉˉˉ(?)0K?e+e?→Ds+Dˉ(?)0K?and the PP-wave charmed-strange mesons are performed based on an e+e?e+e?collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 567 pb?1 collected with the BESIII detector at s√=4.600s=4.600 GeV.The processes of e+e?→D+sDˉˉˉˉ?0K?e+e?→Ds+Dˉ?0K?and D+sDˉˉˉˉ0K?Ds+Dˉ0K?are observed for the first time and are found to be dominated by the modes D+sDs1(2536)?Ds+Ds1(2536)?and D+sD?s2(2573)?Ds+Ds2?(2573)?,respectively.The Born cross sections are measured to beσB(e+e?→D+sDˉˉˉˉ?0K?)=(10.1±2.3±0.8)σB(e+e?→Ds+Dˉ?0K?)=(10.1±2.3±0.8)pb andσB(e+e?→D+sDˉˉˉˉ0K?)=(19.4±2.3±1.6)σB(e+e?→Ds+Dˉ0K?)=(19.4±2.3±1.6)pb,and the products of Born cross section and the decay branching fraction are measured to beσB(e+e?→D+sDs1(2536)?+c.c.)?σB(e+e?→Ds+Ds1(2536)?+c.c.)?B(Ds1(2536)?→Dˉˉˉˉ?0K?)=(7.5±1.8±0.7)B(Ds1(2536)?→Dˉ?0K?)=(7.5±1.8±0.7)pb andσB(e+e?→D+sD?s2(2573)?+c.c.)?B(D?s2(2573)?→Dˉˉˉˉ0K?)=σB(e+e?→Ds+Ds2?(2573)?+c.c.)?B(Ds2?(2573)?→Dˉ0K?)=(19.7±2.9±2.0)(19.7±2.9±2.0)pb.For the Ds1(2536)?Ds1(2536)?and D?s2(2573)?Ds2?(2573)?mesons,the masses and widths are measured to be M(Ds1(2536)?)=(2537.7±0.5±3.1)MeV/c2M(Ds1(2536)?)=(2537.7±0.5±3.1)MeV/c2,Γ(Ds1(2536)?)=(1.7±1.2±0.6)Γ(Ds1(2536)?)=(1.7±1.2±0.6)MeV,and M(D?s2(2573)?)=M(Ds2?(2573)?)=(2570.7±2.0±1.7)MeV/c2,(2570.7±2.0±1.7)MeV/c2,Γ(D?s2(2573)?)=(17.2±3.6±1.1)Γ(Ds2?(2573)?)=(17.2±3.6±1.1)MeV.The spin-parity of the D?s2(2573)?Ds2?(2573)?meson is determined to be JP=2+JP=2+.In addition,the processes e+e?→D+sDˉˉˉˉ(?)0K?e+e?→Ds+Dˉ(?)0K?are searched for using the data samples taken at four(two)center-of-mass energies between 4.416(4.527)and 4.575 GeV,and upper limits at the 90%confidence level on the cross sections are determined. 展开更多

The discovery of the Higgs boson with its mass around 125 GeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations marked the beginning of a new era in high energy physics.The Higgs boson will be the subject of extensive studies of the ongoing LHC program.At the same time,lepton collider based Higgs factories have been proposed as a possible next step beyond the LHC,with its main goal to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson and probe potential new physics associated with the Higgs boson.The Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC)is one of such proposed Higgs factories.The CEPC is an e^+e^- circular collider proposed by and to be hosted in China.Located in a tunnel of approximately 100 km in circumference,it will operate at a center-of-mass energy of 240 GeV as the Higgs factory.In this paper,we present the first estimates on the precision of the Higgs boson property measurements achievable at the CEPC and discuss implications of these measurements. 展开更多

The SAPO-34 catalyst was fine-tuned with zinc cations through a straightforward template-assisted ion incorporation (TH) process, without the necessary template pre-removal and the preparation of NH4- SAPO-34 intermediate, which is more facile, efficient and cost-effective than the conventional ion exchange process. The template-assisted zinc cations incorporated SAPO-34 catalysts were characterized by XRD, XRF, N2 adsorption-desorption, XPS, SEM, EDX,NMR, respectively. Enhanced selectivity to ethylene and ratio of ethylene to propylene in MTO reaction are observed over the zinc cations modified SAPO-34 catalysts, due to the facilitated formation of lower methylbenzenes that favour the ethylene gen eration, as well as the increased diffusion hindrance originated from the zinc cations incorporation and the facil让ated generation of aromatics compound. 展开更多

We study the hadronic decays of ∧c^+ to the final states ∑^+η and ∑^+η, using an e^+e^- annihilation data sample of 567 pb^-1 taken at a center-of-mass energy of 4.6 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We find evidence for the decays ∧^+→∑^+η and ∑^+η' and with statistical significance of and , respectively. Normalizing to the reference decays ∧^+→∑^+π^0 and ∑^+ω, we obtain the ratios of the branching fractions B(∧C^+→∑^+η)/V(∧^→∑^+π^0)and B(∧C^+→∑^+η)/B(∧C^+→∑^+ω)to be and , respectively. The upper limits at the 90% confidence level are set to be B(∧C^→∑^+η)/V(∧^+→∑^+π^0)<0.58 and B(∧C^+→∑^+η)/B(∧C^+→∑^+ω)<1.2. Using BESIII measurements of the branching fractions of the reference decays, we determine B(∧C^+→∑^+η)=(0.41±019±0.05)%(<0.68%) and B(∧C^+→∑^+η)=(1.34+0.53+0.19)%(<1.9%). Here, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The obtained branching fraction of ∧C^+→∑^+η is consistent with the previous measurement, and the branching fraction of ∧C^+→∑^+η is measured for the first time. 展开更多

Owing to its nice performance, low cost, and simple solution-processing, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cell(PSC) becomes a promising candidate for next-generation high-efficiency solar cells.The power conversion efficiency(PCE) has boosted from 3.8% to 25.2% over the past ten years. Despite the rapid progress in PCE, the device stability is a key issue that impedes the commercialization of PSCs. Recently, all-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskites have attracted much attention due to their better stability compared with their organic-inorganic counterpart. In this progress report, we summarize the properties of CsPb(IxBr1-x)3 and their applications in solar cells. The current challenges and corresponding solutions are discussed. Finally, we share our perspectives on CsPb(IxBr1-x)3 solar cells and outline possible directions to further improve the device performance. 展开更多

The recent Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has resulted in the submission of the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) of 190 countries. This study aims to provide an analysis of the ambitiousness and fairness of the mitigation components of the INDCs submitted by various parties. We use a unified framework to assess 23 INDCs that cover 50 countries, including European Union (EU)-28 countries as parties to the Convention, which represent 87.45% of the global greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. First, we transform initial INDC files into reported reduction targets. Second, we create four schemes and six scenarios to determine the required reduction effort, which considers each nation's reduction responsibility, capacity, and potential, thereby reflecting their historical and current development status. Finally, we combine the reported reduction target and the required reduction effort to assess INDCs. Evaluation results of the 23 emitters indicate that 2 emitters (i.e., EU and Brazil) are rated as "sufficient," 7 emitters (e.g., China, the United States, and Canada) are rated as "moderate," and 14 emitters (e.g., India, Russia, and Japan) are rated as "insufficient." Most pledges exhibit a considerable distance from representing a fair contribution. 展开更多

LiCoO2 is one of the most important cathode materials for high energy density lithium ion batteries. The compressed behavior of LiCoO2 under high pressure has been investigated using synchrotron radiation x-ray diffraction. It is found that LiCoO2 maintains hexagonal symmetry up to the maximum pressure of 30.1 GPa without phase transition. The elastic modulus at ambient pressure is 159.5(2.2) GPa and its first derivative is 3.92(0.23). In addition, the high-pressure compression behavior of LiCoO2 has been studied by first principles calculations. The derived bulk modulus of LiCoO2 is 141.6 GPa. 展开更多

The use of reversible pump turbines(RPT) within pumped storage power plants goes with prolonged periods of off-design operating conditions, which leads to the onset of operating mode-dependent instabilities. In order to decrease the gravity of RPT flow instabilities and associated damages or even completely eliminate them, a deep understanding of its onset and development mechanism is needed. In line with this, the present study seeks to numerically investigate the onset and development mechanism of RPT unsteady flow structures as well as the evolutional characteristics of associated pressure pulsations throughout the RPT complete flow passage, under off-design conditions for three GVOs namely 17, 21, and 25 mm. The study results showed that low torque operating conditions and associated vaneless space back flow structures were the trigger of flow unsteadiness onset within the RPT vaneless space, the instabilities which grew to cause the S-shape characteristics appearance. Moreover, the runner flow unsteadiness was found to decrease with the GVO increase. On the other hand, the GVO increase worsened the pressure pulsation levels within RPT flow zones, where pressure pulsations within the vaneless space and flow zones in its vicinities were found to be the most sensitive to GVO changes. 展开更多

The Ulva prolifera green tides in the Yellow Sea, China, which have been occurring since 2007, are a serious environmental problem attracting worldwide attention. Despite extensive research, the outbreak mechanisms have not been fully understood. Comprehensive analysis of anthropogenic and natural biotic and abiotic factors reveals that human activities, regional physicochemical conditions and algal physiological characteristics as well as ocean warming and biological interactions(with microorganism or other macroalgae) are closely related to the occurrence of green tides. Dynamics of these factors and their interactions could explain why green tides suddenly occurred in 2007 and decreased abruptly in 2017.Moreover, the consequence of green tides is serious. The decay of macroalgal biomass could result in hypoxia and acidification, possibly induce red tide and even have a long-lasting impact on coastal carbon cycles and the ecosystem. Accordingly, corresponding countermeasures have been proposed in our study for future reference in ecosystem management strategies and sustainable development policy. 展开更多

Developing Earth-abundant,highly efficient,and anticorrosion electrocatalysts to boost the oxygen evolution reaction(OER),oxygen reduction reaction(ORR),and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) for the Zn–air battery(ZAB) and for overall water splitting is imperative.In this study,a novel process starting with Cu2O cubes was developed to fabricate hollow NixCo1-xSe nanocages as trifunctional electrocatalysts for the OER,ORR,and HER and a reasonable formation mechanism was proposed.The Ni0.2Co0.8Se nanocages exhibited higher OER activity than its counterparts with the low overpotential of 280 mV at 10 mA cm-2.It also outperformed the other samples in the HER test with a low overpotential of 73 mV at 10 mA cm-2.As an air–cathode of a self-assembled rechargeable ZAB,it exhibited good performance,such as an ultralong cycling lifetime of > 50 h,a high round-trip efficiency of 60.86%,and a high power density of 223.5 mW cm-2.For the application in self-made all-solid-state ZAB,it also demonstrated excellent performance with a power density of 41.03 mW cm-2 and an open-circuit voltage of 1.428 V.In addition,Ni0.2Co0.8Se nanocages had superior performance in a practical overall water splitting,in which only 1.592 V was needed to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2.These results show that hollow NixCo1-xSe nanocages with an optimized Ni-to-Co ratio are a promising cost-effective and high-efficiency electrocatalyst for ZABs and overall water splitting in alkaline solutions. 展开更多

Origin of enhanced stability in thiocyanate substituted α-FAPbI3 analogues

In the past few years,hybrid perovskites have emerged as the most promising photovoltaic materials due to their excellent optoelectronic properties,and easy fabrication methods.However,the long-term stability is still the main obstacle for their commercial applications.Recently,thiocyanate-doped hybrid perovskites have shown enhanced stability and impressive efficiency,but the reason is still unknown.Herein,we discussed the enhanced stability of SCN-substituted pseudocubic FABX3(B=Pb^2+,Sn^2+;X=I^–,Br^–,and Cl^–)based on the density functional theory.Through a series of calculations of Bader charge transfer,vacancy formation energies of different kinds of vacancies,decomposition enthalpy,phonon density of states,and ab initio molecular dynamics simulation,we conclude that the incorporation of SCN–can stabilize pseudocubic FABX3,and attribute the enhanced stability mainly to two factors:(1)the strong interaction between Pb^2+/Sn^2+and SCN^–,as well as the strong hydrogen bonding between FA+and X^–/SCN^–,and(2)the structural tilting induced by the incorporation of SCN^–.These findings provide alternative method for tuning the poor stability of pseudocubic FABX3,as well as for obtaining high-performance solar cells. 展开更多

In consideration of geometric parameters, several researches have already optimized the thermal efficiency of the cylindrical cavity receiver. However, most of the optimal results have been achieved at a fixed solar radiation. At different direct normal irradiance (DNI), any single optimal result may not be suitable enough for different regions over the world. This study constructed a 3-D numerical model of cylindrical cavity receiver with DNI variation. In the model of a cylindrical cavity receiver containing a helical pipe, the heat losses of the cavity and heat transfer of working medium were also taken into account. The simulation results show that for a particular DNI in the range of 400 W/m2 to 800 W/m2, there exists a best design for achieving a highest thermal efficiency of the cavity receiver. Besides, for a receiver in constant geometric parameters, the total heat losses increases dramatically with the DNI increasing in that range, as well as the temperature of the working medium. The thermal efficiency presented a different variation tendency with the heat losses, which is 2.45% as a minimum decline. In summary, this paper proposed an optimization method in the form of a bunch of fitting curves which could be applied to receiver design in different DNI regions, with comparatively appropriate thermal performances. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D) layered organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have attracted much more attention for some applications than their three-dimensional(3D) perovskite counterparts due to their promising thermal and moisture stabilities.In particular, the 2D perovskite devices have shown better promise for optoelectronic applications.However, tunability of optoelectronic properties is often demanded to improve the device performance.Herein, we adopt a newly method to tune the electronic properties of 2D perovskite by introducing pseudohalide into the structure.In this work, we designed a pseudohalidesubstituted 2D perovskite by substituting the out-of-plane halide with pseudohalide and studied the electronic and excitonic properties of 2D-BA2MX4 and 2D-BA2MX2Ps2(M=Ge^(2+), Sn^(2+), and Pb^(2+);X=I;Ps=NCO, NCS, OCN, SCN, Se CN).We revealed the dependence of electronic properties including band gaps, composition of band edges, bonding characteristics, work functions, effective masses, and exciton binding energies on different pseudohalides substituted in 2D perovskite.Our results indicate that the substitution of pseudohalide in 2D perovskites is energetically favorable and can significantly affect the bonding characteristics as well as the CBM and VBM that often play major role in determining their performance in optoelectronic devices.It is expected that the pseudohalide substitution will be helpful in developing more advanced optoelectronic device based on 2D perovskite by optimizing band alignment and promoting charge extraction. 展开更多

The scalable growth of wafer-sized single-crystal graphene in an energy-efficient manner and compatible with wafer process is critical for the killer applications of graphene in high-performance electronics and optoelectronics. Here, ultrafast epitaxial growth of single-crystal graphene wafers is realized on singlecrystal Cu90Ni10(1 1 1) thin films fabricated by a tailored two-step magnetron sputtering and recrystallization process. The minor nickel(Ni) content greatly enhances the catalytic activity of Cu, rendering the growth of a 4 in. single-crystal monolayer graphene wafer in 10 min on Cu90Ni10(1 1 1), 50 folds faster than graphene growth on Cu(1 1 1). Through the carbon isotope labeling experiments, graphene growth on Cu90Ni10(1 1 1) is proved to be exclusively surface-reaction dominated, which is ascribed to the Cu surface enrichment in the Cu Ni alloy, as indicated by element in-depth profile. One of the best benefits of our protocol is the compatibility with wafer process and excellent scalability. A pilot-scale chemical vapor deposition(CVD) system is designed and built for the mass production of single-crystal graphene wafers, with productivity of 25 pieces in one process cycle. Furthermore, we demonstrate the application of single-crystal graphene in electrically controlled liquid-crystal microlens arrays(LCMLA), which exhibit highly tunable focal lengths near 2 mm under small driving voltages. By integration of the graphene based LCMLA and a CMOS sensor, a prototype camera is proposed that is available for simultaneous light-field and light intensity imaging. The single-crystal graphene wafers could hold great promising for highperformance electronics and optoelectronics that are compatible with wafer process. 展开更多

Nanomaterials have been considered as the potential candidates for the effective and selective removal of radionuclides from aqueous solutions under complicated conditions because of their high specific surface area, large amounts of binding sites, abundant functional groups, pore-size controllable and easily surface modification. This review mainly summarized the recent studies for the synthesis, fabrication and surface modification of novel nanomaterials and their applications in the efficient elimination and solidification of radionuclides,and discussed the interaction mechanisms from batch experiments, spectroscopy analysis and theoretical calculations. The sorption capacities with other materials, advantages and disadvantages of different nanomaterials are compared, and at last the perspective of the novel nanomaterials is summarized. 展开更多
