This paper presents the impact of telemedicine use among patients and healthcare professionals during the epidemic due to COVID-19 outbreak in Bangladesh. According to our findings, as the coronavirus outbreak quickly surges worldwide, many countries are adapting non-therapeutic preventative measures. Telemedicine is the exchange of medical information from one location to another using electronic communication. Telemedicine refers to the use of information and communication technology to provide healthcare support. During the pandemic, it is safer not to visit a hospital physically for consultation until and unless it is of utmost emergency. In this scenario, Telemedicine plays a vast role in developing both the quality and access to healthcare services during a pandemic. The current (COVID-19) scenario has shown us the significance of using Telehealth to deliver healthcare, especially as a means of decreasing the risk of cross-contamination caused by close contact. Bangladesh, like every other nation, has started using telemedicine as a means of providing digital healthcare services. As the outbreak continues, this paper finds that several telemedicine service providers in Bangladesh have increased their operation for serving the general mass. This paper finds the role of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic as a bridge between providing safe healthcare consultation while keeping social distance as advised. The current situation of COVID-19 in Bangladesh has also been discussed in this paper. Despite some challenges of a telemedicine application in Bangladesh, the role of telemedicine is quite impactful during the pandemic. 展开更多

The measurements and analysis of deformation of engineering structures such as dams, bridges and high-rise buildings are important tasks for civil engineers. It is evident that, all civil engineering structures are susceptible for deterioration over a period of time. Bridges in particular, deteriorate due to loading conditions, environmental changes, earth movement, material used during construction, age and corrosion of steel. Continuous monitoring of such structure is the most important aspect as it provides quantitative information, assesses the state of the structure, detects unsafe positions and proposes early safety measures to be taken before it can threaten the safety of vehicles, goods and human life. Despite government’s efforts to construct roads and highways, bridge deformation monitoring has not been given priority in most of African countries and ultimately causes some bridges to collapse unexpectedly. The purpose of this research is to integrate Global Positioning System (GPS) and Linear Variable Differential Transducers (LVDT) to monitor deformation of a bridge. The horizontal positions of reference and monitoring points were determined using Global Positioning System (GPS) while the vertical deflections, accelerations and strain were determined using Linear Variable Differential Transducers (LVDT). The maximum displacements obtained between zero and first epochs in x, y and z components were 0.798 m, at point LT08, 0.865 m at point BR13, and 0.56 m at point LT02 respectively. The maximum deflections for LVDT 1, 2 and 3 are 28.563 mm, 31.883 mm and 40.926 mm respectively. Finally, the correlation coefficient for the observations was 0.679 with standard deviations of 0.0168 and 0.0254 in x and y respectively. Our results identified some slight displacements in horizontal components at the bridge. 展开更多

Vast amount of data and information flow from the aquaponics plant itself with its huge amount of smart sensors for water quality, fish and plant growth, system state etc. and from the stakeholder, e.g., farmers, retailers and end consumers. The intelligent management of aquaponics is only possible if this data and information are managed and used in an intelligent way. Therefore, the main focus of this paper is to introduce an intelligent information management (IIM) for aquaponics. It will be shown how the information can be used to create services such as predictive analytics, system optimization and anomaly detection to improve the aquaponics system. The results show that the system enabled full traceability and transparency in the aquaponics processes (customers can follow what is going on at the farm), reduced water and energy use and increased revenue through early fault detection. The jugular venous pulse (JVP) waveform provides an insight into right heart function, and its assessment is important in patients with heart failure. However, the conventional pulse-transducer (contact) method for monitoring this waveform is not frequently used because it requires a high degree of skill. The aim of this study was to confirm the effectiveness of a prototype non-contact system that employs microwave radar (24 GHz, 7 mW;non-contact system) for JVP measurement. Experiments were conducted on eight healthy male volunteers (21.88 ± 0.99 years). JVP measurements were compared between the conventional contact method and the proposed non-contact method. Change in JVP waveform was measured in response to an angle of reclining in five steps from the supine position to 75<span style="white-space:nowrap;">°</span> of elevation. The obtained JVP measurements were similar between the two methods. Because in the non-contact method the faint pulsation of the JVP is not suppressed by the pressure of a sensor placed on the skin, the prototype microwave radar system is particularly suitable for evaluating the JVP waveform. 展开更多

Many options exist for developing and implementing monitoring systems for research and scientific applications. Commercially, available systems and devices, however, are usually built using proprietary tools and programming instructions, and often offer limited flexibility for end users. The use of open-source hardware and software has been embraced by the research and scientific communities and can be used to target unique data and information requirements. Development based on the Arduino microcontroller project has resulted in many successful applications, and the Arduino hardware and software environment continues to expand and become more powerful but can be intimidating for users with limited electronics or programming experience. The open-source Python language has gained in popularity and is being taught in schools and universities as an introduction to computer programming and software development due to its simple structure, ease of use, and large standard library of functions. A project called CircuitPython was developed to extend the use of Python to programming hardware devices such as programmable microcontrollers and maintains much of the original Python lang<span>uage and features, with additional support for accessing and controlling microcontroller hardware. The objective of the work reported here is to discuss the CircuitPython programming language and demonstrate its use in the development of research and scientific applications. The fall armyworm(FAW),Spodoptera frugiperda(J.E.Smith)(Lepidoptera:Noctuidae),a notorious migratory pest native to tropical and subtropical America,invaded China in December 2018,then spread through 26 provinces(autonomous regions,municipalities)in 2019 and 27 in 2020,damaging 1.125 and 1.278 million hectares of crops,respectively.Maize was the most severely affected crop,although wheat and other plants were also ruined.Considering the biological characteristics,incidence regularity and migration patterns of the FAW populations,Chinese government implemented a regional control strategy and divided the areas infested with FAW into the annual breeding grounds in Southwest and South China,the transitional migration area in Jiangnan and Jianghuai and the key preventive area in the Huang-Huai-Hai region and North China.The National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center constructed"the National Information Platform for the Prevention and Control of the Fall Armyworm"at the county level,which would entail people reporting and mapping the spread of fall armyworm.According to forecasting information,millions of extension workers and small-scale growers in entire country were rallied by local governments to fight the pest through comprehensive control tactics including chemical,physical,biological and ecological measures.Thanks to the joint prevention and control,the final loss of crops infested was controlled within 5%of the total in 2019 and 2020.This review also gives a discussion on existing problems and future management scenarios. 展开更多

Mechanization is a depollution activity,because it provides an energetic and ecological response to the problem of organic waste treatment.Through burning,biogas from mechanization reduces gas pollution from fermentation by a factor of 20.This study aims to better understand the influence of the seasons on the emitted biogas in the landfill of the city Mohammedia.The composition of the biogas that naturally emanates from the landfill has been continuously analyzed by our intelligent system,from different wells drilled in recent and old waste repositories.During the rainy season,the average production of methane,carbon dioxide,and oxygen and nitrogen are currently 56%,32%,and 1%,respectively,compared to 51%,31%,and 0.8%,respectively,for old waste.Hazards levels,potential fire,and explosion risks associated with biogas are lower than those of natural gases in most cases.For this reason a system is proposed to measure and monitor the biogas production of the landfill site remotely.Measurement results carried out at various sites of the landfill in the city of Mohammedia by the system show that the biogas contents present dangers and sanitary risks which are of another order. 展开更多

目的在医院信息化建设基础上,构建并对接传染病实时监控平台,用于传染病疫情的两级报告和监控管理。方法以医院HIS信息系统为平台,整合HIS、LIS、PACS存量信息,建立功能模块,设立预警提示,医生通过HIS系统跳转传染病实时监控平台,完成... 目的在医院信息化建设基础上,构建并对接传染病实时监控平台,用于传染病疫情的两级报告和监控管理。方法以医院HIS信息系统为平台,整合HIS、LIS、PACS存量信息,建立功能模块,设立预警提示,医生通过HIS系统跳转传染病实时监控平台,完成传染病信息的采集、上报,管理员导入网络直报、进行预警及患者信息查询、疫情数据统计等。结果医生及时处置传染病预警信息,管理人员实时监控、审核、直接对接国家疾病预防控制信息系统导入直报。2019年使用监控平台后,传染病漏报率和疫情报告完整率与2018年比较,经数据统计显示,χ2值分别为:χ2=9.254,χ2=74.715,差异均具有统计学意义,表明监控平台的应用能有效减少传染病漏报,确保报告的及时性,显著提高了疫情报卡质量。结论信息化极大提升了传染病疫情报告的工作效率和质量,为传染病疫情管理更加系统化、规范化和科学化提供了支持。 展开更多

Continuous drug monitoring is a promising alternative to current therapeutic drug monitoring strategies and has a strong potential to reshape our understanding of pharmacokinetic variability and to improve individualised therapy.This review highlights recent advances in biosensing technologies that support continuous drug monitoring in real time.We focus primarily on aptamer-based biosensors,wearable and implantable devices.Emphasis is given to the approaches employed in constructing biosensors.We pay attention to sensors’biocompatibility,calibration performance,long-term characteristics stability and measurement quality.Last,we discuss the current challenges and issues to be addressed in continuous drug monitoring to make it a promising,future tool for individualised therapy.The ongoing efforts are expected to result in fully integrated implantable drug biosensing technology.Thus,we may anticipate an era of advanced healthcare in which wearable and implantable biochips will automatically adjust drug dosing in response to patient health conditions,thus enabling the management of diseases and enhancing individualised therapy. 展开更多
